US studio CBS Films is working on a big screen adaptation of Gunsmoke and the studio is looking for its leading man. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the TV show, it's a drama about the old west (specifically: Dodge City) , which ran for 20 years from 1955 to 1975. The part in question? Lawman Marshall Matt Dillon, originally played by James Arness. Sadly, Matt Dillon the actor isn't on the short list of desired talent, but Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds are being considered. Dillon's character is described as a peacemaker in the midst of local vagrants and hoodlums, who has the town doctor and local bar mistress as his sidekicks. Naturally, Brad's performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford proves he's got the chops to do a Western, but Reynolds is also on fire right now as an up and coming leading man. Pitt seems better suited for a grittier role, though I'd love to see Reynolds continue his hot streak of eclectic projects. Who gets your vote?
This week's episode of Desperate Housewives follows the residents of Wisteria Lane as they deal with the aftermath of Julie's attack. At the epicenter, Susan's friendships with the housewives are tested (though most of the betrayals happen behind her back). Meanwhile, the newest neighbours find their son on the list of primary suspects and Mrs. McCluskey lands a new love. There were scandals all over the place this week, so let's get the party started.
The weeklies may have gone on sale yesterday, but there's still plenty of time to check out what's happening in mag land! Who has a Megan Gale exclusive and rounds up fashion from the Grammys. NW reports on some flirting action between Kristen Stewart and Miranda Kerr’s main man, Orlando Bloom, while Famous catches out the Twilight star with her hunky co-star, Taylor Lautner. Lastly is fashion weekly Grazia, which addresses the surgery debate around Kate Moss and comes with a bonus Little Book of Shopping Secrets. So, tell us—which magazine will you be picking up this week?
Taylor Swift is gracing our shores and she seems to be having a great time on tour in Oz. She had a concert in Newcastle last night and wrote on her Twitter page, “My band + dancers + Gloriana + me. One bus. 2 hour drive to Newcastle. Summer camp style. Sometimes life at 20 resembles life at 10.” She even revealed that she has had a profound life changing experience Down Under, adding, “Playing with glittery eyeliner in the dressing room while @elizabethhuett and I discuss how caramel Tim Tams have changed our lives.” Yes, I too have had my life changed by caramel Tim Tams and use them regularly to self-medicate! Swifty also said that Sydney had stolen her heart and that she wanted to spend time exploring the city. Tay Tay is has today off (she's probably out doing touristy things—check Taronga Zoo and The Rocks!) and hits Melbourne tomorrow to play two sold out shows.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith—the early years? That's the idea behind Hollywood's latest follow-up to the movie that first paired Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Instead of a sequel, though, the next movie would be a prequel with different actors.
The prequel, titled Mr. and Mrs. Jones, would match up two completely new characters in a similar situation—spies forced into an arranged marriage—but this time, they'll be a bit younger. The casting calls for two 20-something hot actors and, if Jones wants to get close to the success of Smith, the couple needs to have smoldering hot chemistry.
Any ideas? I could see Natalie Portman or Malin Akerman taking on the man-eater role, while Jake Gyllenhaal or Robert Pattinson could both stand to take on a slick action flick. Who would you want to see together?
Australian actress Portia de Rossi appears on the cover of gay magazine The Advocate in a Great Gatsby-esque pose and she looks absolutely divine. Portia (the former Mandy Rogers from Melbourne) talks about falling in love with Ellen DeGeneres, the book she's writing, her eating disorder and the fight for marriage equality.
On her upcoming book : “It will deal with all the secrets that nearly killed me.” Approached by an agent at William Morris to write about eating disorders, De Rossi wasn’t sure she could do it. Nevertheless, she’s writing it from a firsthand perspective without the typical celebrity-assist ghostwriter. “Nobody can really get inside the anorexic’s mind like the anorexic.”
On her eating disorder and her sexuality: The story starts in 1997 (when her acting career took off) and goes through 2004 (when she began dating DeGeneres), with flashbacks to her childhood. “I abused my body. I had bulimia. I would use [diet drug] fen-phen. I wanted to talk about all that. But obviously I can’t do that without talking about my sexuality. And although you can’t really talk about one without the other, it still felt like two stories. The only thing that linked the two of them was me.”
On talking to Oprah about her wedding to Ellen: “Being on Oprah was a very surreal moment—to go from being so closeted and so afraid to talk about my sexuality to sitting with my wife, talking about my wedding and how much I love her. To look out at that audience and see most of the audience crying—Oprah was crying! Life can take so many twists and turns. You can’t ever count yourself out. Even if you’re really afraid at some point, you can’t think that there’s no room for you to grow and do something good with your life.”
Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz got sweaty on the beach along with Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr this weekend as they played American football in Miami! The actors got sporty in the game shown on TV in the states, which also included Marisa Miller, Michael Clarke Duncan and celeb spectator Jennifer Lopez. The Gossip Girl and Twilight stars bonded and laughed together on the sidelines, while Taylor also hit the sand a few times as he played energetically. Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Rob Lowe were some of the celebs that watched the main game on Sunday. Miami was the place to be this weekend!
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt took their son Maddox to the Super Bowl in Miami yesterday. The couple were in great spirits as they laughed and greeted fans, looking happy and relaxed. But Brad, Ange and Maddox weren't the only big celebs taking in the American Football game; Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were also in the crowd. Carrie Underwood and Queen Latifah sang at the match, while The Who played an epic half time medley of songs.
Sam Worthington is back in Australia taking a break before hitting the promotional trail for Clash of the Titans, but the job offers keep rolling in. He's been in talks to play Flash Gordon and signed on for a Dracula movie directed by fellow Aussie Alex Proyas and now he's got yet another one to throw on the pile. Sam will star in The Fields playing a Texas detective who investigates unsolved homicide mysteries with a detective from New York. Let the city boy/country boy jokes and banter commence! The screenplay is based on a true story and will be directed by Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of The Insider and Collateral director Michael Mann. The film is already in pre-production in Louisiana and will start shooting in April.
