Rose Byrne and fellow Aussie actor Brendan Cowell have called it quits after nearly seven years together. The two split last month right before the Golden Globes. On the red carpet Rose posed with her co-star Tate Donovan and at the time, I wondered why her boyfriend wasn’t with her. Brendan is currently based in LA, while Rose is based in New York, where she films her TV seriesDamages. The pair met through friends band began dating in 2003, but spent most of the time living on opposite sides of the globe, which put a strain on their relationship.
While last week's episode of House was an awesome look at the inner workings of House the man, it was nice to get back to the medical drama that we know and love—even if it wasn't quite business as usual. It's interesting to see what happened while House was away and it was also fun to see how House was coping with being away.
Did you watch? What did you think? Let's discuss some of the key moments (spoilers ahead!).
Was anyone else thrown off by the video game starting? For a few seconds I thought my TiVo had recorded the wrong show. I must admit though, I loved the ridiculous gaming scenes, especially when they come back later with our fave doctors as characters.
What did you think of Foreman as boss? Do you think he has the chops to run the department? It didn't surprise me that he jumped at the chance, although I hated how he suddenly didn't want to listen to Thirteen.
While we're on the subject of Foreman and Thirteen, can I just say that I find their pairing totally forced? Were you surprised when he fired her at the end? I literally yelled at my TV when he did. Wouldn't you break up with him if you were in Thirteen's place?
Speaking of Thirteen, did you catch her Jeremy Piven mercury poisoning joke? If not, then as she said, go Google it.
What did you think of Wilson and House's cooking class brodate? It was hands-down my favourite moment of the evening. I just love their old married couple dynamic.
I know I just said that the brodate was my favourite moment, but how can I not mention the scene with Cuddy in the kitchen? I loved it when the random Chinese lady told Cuddy to kiss House or get out.
I was glad to see that Dr. Nolan is still on the show. I find him to be such a calming presence in the rest of the chaos and hope we get to see these therapy sessions for a little while longer.
Did you love the twist at the end? I knew that there was no way they could run the department without House. Although when Foreman had the breakthrough over pruned fingers, I wondered if it was possible to solve a medical mystery without an epiphany.
Well folks, what did you think? I thought it was a strong return for the show and I can't wait for next week's episode. How long will House stay clean? How long will the old gang (Cameron, Chase, and Foreman) be around? Especially since we know that Jennifer Morrison is leaving the show. Will Thirteen and Taub show up again? Something tells me they will, but then again, the writers have proven to be great at throwing us off, so we'll all just have to tune in and find out.
Rihanna hit Miami to take the stage during a pre-Super Bowl performance. She was dressed down for a rehearsal earlier in the day, but once showtime rolled around, she was decked out in a bra-bearing, leg exposing catsuit. Joining Rihanna were Justin Bieber and Timbaland, with Young Jeezy even making a cameo during her song "Hard." The Fan Jam concert series continued with Nelly Furtado and Pitbull, as the city got ready to host Sunday's big game between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts.
The new Channel 10 drama The Good Wife premieres tonight and it's been getting a lot of positive buzz, especially since Julianna Margulies won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for her role on the show. Let's take a look closer look:
What's it about? A politician's wife, shamed by her husband's public sex and corruption scandal, takes a job as a junior associate at a prestigious law firm.
Who's in it? Julianna Margulies, Josh Charles, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Chris Noth (aka Mr. Big!).
The good: The parts of the story focusing on Alicia (Margulies) trying to navigate life after her husband's revelations are the strongest moments in the premiere. It's certainly timely to tell a story about a high-profile wife caught in the eye of a political storm and Margulies ably shows what the effects of such a scandal might be on Alicia's career, her children and her marriage. Alicia's relationships at work are another promising element: Her boss (Charles) is an old classmate curious to see how Alicia does after so many years out of court, while the firm's investigator becomes a fast friend.
The bad: The legal parts of the show feel just like any other legal procedural; I found myself struggling to pay attention to some of the courtroom scenes. I'm interested in how Alicia gains confidence at work and how developments there resonate through her tortured personal life, but the specific details of the case made the episode drag a bit.
Will I watch? Actually, yes. I didn't expect to like this as much as I did and I'm interested to see more. To check out a preview video and some photos, just keep reading.
These days, you know what you're going to get when you walk into an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks book: smudged makeup, ugly sobbing and tissue rash on the nose. Dear John, out March 4, is the latest in his line of romances. The poster alone features famous Sparks conventions—a couple falling in love in a beach setting—and it got me thinking about the other common themes that show up repeatedly in Nicholas Sparks movies.
When Precious first caused rumblings, I thought, "There is no way I'm seeing this film." There are certain things that I find uncomfortable to watch—pregnant teens, abuse, Mariah Carey. But I'm so glad I did. Because despite its drawbacks on paper, Precious provides a big payback to those who watch it. It's one of those few unforgettable films that stays with you days later—for better and for worse. Based on the novel Push by Sapphire, Precious follows the story of Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), an overweight high school student who is pregnant for the second time by her father and living with her abusive mother, Mary (Mo'Nique). She struggles at school, because on top of her circumstances, she's also coasted through the system without ever learning how to read. So after the news of her recent pregnancy reaches the administration, she enrolls in a special program to get her high school equivalency certificate. I realise that by now you're probably nixing this one as a weepy, formulaic melodrama, but hear me out. The film is indeed a hopeful story at its heart, so to see what I mean keep reading.
In this era of vampire pop culture, it's rare to see the supernatural creatures portrayed as horrifying as they were once meant to be—monsters that want to tear into your flesh and drink your blood. Daybreakers bites right into that and goes one step further: vampires have overridden the 2019-set society and humans—and their sustaining blood—are in high demand and being hunted. Add a corporation that supports the farming of healthy humans and you've got a terrifying yet timely satire. The movie does have quality casting (Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke and Sam Neill) and is chock-a-block with Aussie talent including Isabel Lucas, Claudia Karvan, Vince Colosimo and Jay Laga'aia. The film also received some fairly decent reviews. Will you be checking out Daybreakers this weekend?
Eclipse is still months away, so what are the Twi-hards of the world to do until then? For starters, the Twilight kids have lots of other movies in the works. Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz (aka Alice and Emmett Cullen) team up again in Warrior, though they seem to be a lot closer than brother and sister this time around—take a look at the stills from the film!
Reese, meanwhile, has evidently gone on a date—she was spotted out with CAA agent Jim Toth. They grabbed dinner, hugging good-bye afterwards.
Reese and Jake had a good run, but they just might be on the road to getting over each other. So, tell us—are you happy to see Jake and Reese moving on?
Russell's Forgetting Sarah Marshall costar Jason Segel took to the stage to sing a song from the movie—"Inside of You"—and Russell joined in, ending the song with an enthusiastic snog and lots of groping! I wonder how Katy Perry felt about that!
