Aaron Eckhart and Angela Bassett both star in Olympus Has Fallen, as the US president and a Secret Service Agent, respectively. I recently sat down to talk with the pair about making the film and Bassett's trip to the real White House. Check it out! Olympus Has Fallen is out on Apr. 18.
The Rum Diary: A Hangover You Won't Mind
You know that friend who always has a crazy story to tell about one time he was "so drunk"? The tale meanders into several different tangents, and by the time you get to the middle, you've forgotten how it started and realize the story is going nowhere. And yet, you don't mind listening because you're highly entertained the whole time. That's basically The Rum Diary. Johnny Depp stars in the film as Paul Kemp, a journalist who takes a job at a struggling newspaper in Puerto Rico in the 1950s in the adaption of Hunter S. Thompson's novel. He's excited to be on the island and eager to get to work, but he's relegated to writing horoscopes and profiles on tourists. Kemp fights to cover some of the region's more important issues, but he loses his focus on work whenever his favourite pastime comes into play: drinking.

Thanks to the proliferation of rum in the area and his ever-willing drinking buddy Sala (Michael Rispoli), there are always plenty of opportunities for various adventures. Kemp sobers up long enough to get involved with a morally questionable project, lured by charming but crooked businessman Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Or more accurately, he's lured in by Sanderson's temptress of a girlfriend, Chenault (Amber Heard). Though Kemp has a few ambitions when the movie begins, they mostly devolve into afterthoughts as he becomes more consumed with his alcohol-soaked lifestyle and his crush on Chenault. It parallels the film's similar lack of direction; though a few plot threads are introduced, they're all abandoned in favour of portraying Kemp's partying ways on the sandy shores of Puerto Rico.

Ricki-Lee, Jesinta, Shane and More Celebrate the Australian Grand Prix
Australian celebrities gathered at Shane Warne’s Melbourne lounge bar Club 23 for the Australian Grand Prix opening party last night. Ricki-Lee Coulter showed off her slender physique in a bodysuit and feathered skirt combo, and tweeted before the event, “LOOOOOVE the outfit I'm wearing tonight!!!” Inside the party she met up with her fellow Australian Idol alum Anthony Callea, who attended with partner Tim Campbell. Jesinta Campbell looked all grown up in a one-shouldered black dress and posted a photo of herself with Shane on Twitter. Hollywood star Aaron Eckhart, who is filming the thriller I, Frankenstein in Melbourne, brought some international star power and will also attend the Grand Prix on Sunday.
Katie Does Dinner With Armani, Emma, Jessica and More
Emma Stone wore striped Armani to join fellow Hollywood starlets like Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Rashida Jones and Katie Holmes for Giorgio Armani and Vanity Fair's private dinner in LA last night. Super stylist Rachel Zoe was decked out in black to pose before the exclusive meal. It was Katie's latest outing with the brand after attending many of its shows over the years. Katie Holmes' wedding dress was even Armani! There were plenty of men represented, too: Adam Brody dressed up for the event as did Josh Hartnett, Aaron Eckhart, newly single James Marsden, and Darren Criss. It was a date night for Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham as well as J. Edgar star Armie Hammer and his wife Elizabeth Chambers. Emma attended after a long day on the set of The Gangster Squard with her two-time co-star Ryan Gosling — the duo also acted together in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Katie, meanwhile, has been hanging out on the West Coast and shopping with her daughter, Suri Cruise, following their weekend visit to Tom Cruise on the Pittsburgh production site of One Shot. The debut of Katie's next acting gig is coming up, too, when the Halloween episode of How I Met You Mother, in which she plays the infamous "slutty pumpkin," finally airs.
James, Natalie and More Triumph at the Independent Spirits!
Yesterday's Independent Spirit Awards in LA gave Hollywood another chance to celebrate the best actors and films of the year. Many stars looked amazing on the red carpet, including lovely ladies like Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence. It's the last show before the Oscars — make sure to print out our ballot to pick your winners for today — but not all of the usual suspects of this year's award season went home winners yesterday. Pregnant and glowing Natalie did seize the best actress statue for her ballerina role in Black Swan, but unlike at many other shows, it was James Franco who was crowned best actor for 127 Hours. He headed into the press room after accepting his honour, and revealed a few hints about what's in store at the Academy Awards.
This show was full of A-list presenters, like Nicole Kidman and Jeremy Renner. Twilight's Anna Kendrick was alongside How I Met Your Mother star and director of the upcoming Happythankyoumoreplease Josh Radnor. Naomi Watts, who attended with Liev Schreiber, took the stage with Ewan McGregor. James made the rounds to chat with Natalie's director, Darren Aronofsky, and Diego Luna. There were plenty of adorable couples in attendance, too, as Nicole spent time with her husband, Keith Urban, and Jon Hamm stayed close to his girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. Nominee Annette Bening was next to Warren Beatty, while pals Jeremy and Mark Ruffalo caught up. Check out the full list of winners from the Independent Spirits and make sure to stay tuned to PopSugar for today's live broadcast from the Oscars red carpet. Rabbit Hole: Kidman and Eckhart Pull You In
The premise of Rabbit Hole can be summed up in one sentence: a married couple grapples with their grief eight months after their young son, Danny, is killed in a car accident. John Cameron Mitchell's drama is heavy to say the least, but versatile performances from Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart as the couple in question make the film heartbreaking in an engaging way, rather than overwrought and emotionally manipulative.
On the surface, Becca (Kidman) and Howie (Eckhart) seem like a picture-perfect couple. When the movie opens, housewife Becca is making dinner in their gorgeous kitchen as good-natured Howie arrives home wearing a suit and a smile. Within a few minutes, we realise that Becca and Howie are just putting on an act, and though the spouses are doing their best to get back into an old routine, the film's message is clear: when you've lost a loved one, you can't ever go back. But how do you move forward?

Ryan Gosling Brings His Mum to the Governors Awards
Ryan Gosling brought a special lady, his mum, Donna, as his date to the second annual Governors Awards in LA on Saturday night. The birthday boy celebrated his 30th at Disneyland on Friday, and while he's had plenty of memorable onstage moments in the past, the evening was all about the honorees like Francis Ford Coppola and Eli Wallach. Sofia Coppola came out to support her dad alongside Natalie Portman, Hilary Swank and Elle Fanning. The ladies were joined by guests Stephen Dorff, Justin Long and Josh Brolin, who stuck by his red-hot wife, Diane Lane.
