Filming for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is officially underway, with director Marc Webb at the helm once again, and Andrew Garfield slipping back into the Spidey suit. According to the official film synopsis, the sequel will find Peter spending his days as a high school senior with girlfriend Gwen (Emma Stone) and his nights fighting crime. He'll meet a new villain, as well as a few new classmates — including Mary Jane Watson. Most of the original cast will be back, but there are some new big-name actors in the mix, so check out who's who in the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Andrew Garfield kicked off his week in NYC by working on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 both yesterday and Monday. The actor took to the set of the sequel wearing a heavy coat and breaking to laugh at playbacks with a friend, before suiting up in his Spider-Man spandex. Andrew's return to his role as Peter Parker will mark the first film he's done since the first of the franchise. His on and off-screen love, Emma Stone, will also return to her role as Gwen Stacy, along with several new cast members signing on for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Among them is Shailene Woodley, who was also on set yesterday sporting a noticeably redder shade of hair for her role as Mary Jane.

The couple haven’t been as involved with awards season this year as with previous years, though Emma joined Oscars host Seth MacFarlane to announce this year’s nominees in January. Emma has also made a handful of editorial appearances over the past month, landing on the covers of W’s Best Performances issue and Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue, where she was sandwiched between Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper. There has also been casting buzz surrounding Emma and Andrew’s Amazing Spider-Man sequel, with reports that Paul Giamatti will play a villain called The Rhino and Felicity Jones will join in an unknown role.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield engaged in some sweet PDA after leaving a pet store in LA on Friday. Emma is already a dog owner, though the two were apparently checking out the puppies for a possible new addition to the family. Emma and Andrew look to be spending the holidays together to close out an exciting and love-filled 2012 for the happy couple. They got to share in the success of The Amazing Spider-man and gear up to film the sequel, and Emma recently kicked off promotions for The Gangster Squad alongside another handsome leading man, Ryan Gosling. Emma was in the City of Light for Paris Fashion Week and scored a coveted front row seat at Miu Miu, where she joined Dianna Agron, Amanda Seyfried, Felicity Jones and Chloë Sevigny for the show. Yesterday she had a bearded Andrew for company when they paid a visit to Book Soup bookstore in Sunset Boulevard, picking up a few items. As for their next career moves, Andrew has signed on for a second Spider-Man movie with director Marc Webb, while Emma is reportedly still in negotiations to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy.
