Your Guide to Royal Weddings

While many royal weddings don't garner the attention of Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day, they don't lack in lavishness.

While many royal weddings don't garner the attention of Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day, they don't lack in lavishness. Last weekend, Princess Madeleine of Sweden married US banker Christopher O'Neill in Stockholm, Sweden, and it was far from a modest affair. The princess was dressed in a lace gown designed by Valentino Garavani, and the designer was among the many VIP guests that included other royals from around the world, like Princess Charlene of Monaco and England's Prince Edward.

Madeleine and Christopher's nuptials were part of a long tradition of elaborate royal weddings around the world. Last year, the tiny country of Luxembourg treated its Crown Prince Guillaume to an extravagant affair when he married Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. The celebration, which reportedly cost around $650,000 and was funded by taxpayers, spanned multiple days, and included a guest list packed with kings, queens and other royals from around the world. In Brunei, Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, the fifth daughter of Brunei's sultan, married Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini at her father's 1,700-room palace in front of 3,000 guests. A state dinner followed, and Queen Elizabeth II even sent her best wishes.

These royals make up some of the lesser-known but just as regal royals of the world. And just like the Brits, they know how to throw opulent weddings for members of their families. From the wedding for the future emperor of Japan in 1924 to Grace Kelly's Monaco spectacular in 1956 to Will and Kate's big day on April 29, 2011, here is a guide to the world's royal weddings over the years.

See Princess Madeleine's Valentino Wedding Dress, from Every Angle!

What better reason to come out of retirement than to design a royal wedding dress?

What better reason to come out of retirement than to design a royal wedding dress? Valentino Garavani did just that, offering his services to Princess Madeleine of Sweden. HRH married American banker Christopher O'Neil in a traditional ceremony in her native home Stockholm, Sweden, over the weekend. And the dress? It was everything you'd hope for a Valentino-dressed bride, and more. According to the official Swedish Royal Court website, the gorgeous gown was made of silk organza and ivory Chantilly lace and featured a low-cut back, waist-pleats and a four metre train. The six metre long veil was also made of silk organza, and was edged with point d'esprit dots and appliqued Chantilly lace orange blossom. Fresh orange blossom topped the Princess' privately owned tiara.

The designer himself said of the royal commission, “Working with Princess Madeleine has just been so easy. . . She is very lovely girl. She is modern, fun, full of energy and enthusiasm, and she is so beautiful! It has been a pleasure and an honor.” Move aside Kate Middleton! From her beautiful jewellery to the detail on this exquisite dress  we think this royal bride deserves her own all angles gallery. Step inside to zoom in on all the dress details.

The country of Sweden celebrated today with the wedding of their Princess Madeleine.

The country of Sweden celebrated today with the wedding of their Princess Madeleine. The youngest daughter of Sweden's King and Queen married New York banker Christopher O'Neill in Stockholm. The now-newlyweds met in New York City, where the princess had moved in 2010 following a previous broken engagement. During the ceremony, Madeleine read her vows in Swedish, while Christopher read his in English. The 30-year-old princess was dressed in a lace gown designed by Valentino Garavani, and the designer was among the many VIP guests that included other royals from around the world like Princess Charlene of Monaco and England's Prince Edward.

Details: Jennifer Hawkins' Wedding Hair & Makeup Look

Former Miss Universe, model and designer, Jennifer Hawkins, married her sweetheart, Jake Wall, in Bali earlier this week.

Former Miss Universe, model and designer, Jennifer Hawkins, married her sweetheart, Jake Wall, in Bali earlier this week. Woman's Day had the cover exclusive, and last night revealed the much anticipated cover of the newly-weds. Jennifer's hairstylist, Keiren Street, kept her strands very natural for the big day, opting to pull the front back into a neat clip. No doubt the humidity played a key role in her decision to clip her hair back, and the same could be said for her beautifully natural makeup by Liz Kelsh. The beach-themed wedding asked for a more minimal look, with peachy, glossed lips and full lashes. Her nails were also neutral — a safe option for brides on their big day. Overall, Jen's look is classic and understated — perfect for our Australian beauty queen.

Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall were married on late Tuesday afternoon in Uluwatu, Bali, and Woman’s Day have released their official wedding photos in its new issue, which is on sale today after being rushed to printers and pushed out ahead of its usual Monday on-sale day. It’s the first proper look at Jennifer’s natural hair and makeup, and Toni Maticevski wedding dress — the Australian designer created a custom strapless gown for the special occasion, the first of two dresses Jennifer was going to wear, but she felt so comfortable that she kept her first Maticevski dress on for the whole party.

The nuptials, touted as the Australian celebrity wedding of their year, were an intimate affair with just 60 family and friends making up the guest list. The ceremony took place at the Semara Luxury Villa Resort, with the reception kicking on inside a marquee that had been erected for the occasion. Guests dined on canapés and a five-course menu as the night went on — other highlights include Jennifer and Jake’s first dance to Otis Redding’s “These Arms of Mine” and a tribute to Jake’s mother Leslee, who passed away last year.

Here Comes the Bride! Saluting Jennifer Hawkins' Single Girl Style

Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall pulled a sneaky on us, getting hitched in Uluwatu, Bali, late yesterday afternoon.

Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall pulled a sneaky on us, getting hitched in Uluwatu, Bali, late yesterday afternoon. Whilst details on the dress are yet to hit our desk/inbox/Twitter or Instagram feed, we can tell the bride reportedly wore a traditional white 'meringue' style strapless frock with a full skirt. Jennifer earned herself a place in our hearts as the down to earth winner of the Miss Universe title back in 2004, and since then the Newcastle Knights cheerleader has turned herself into a fashion mogul of sorts; securing ambassador deals with Myer, Lovable and Mount Franklin, as well as starting her self-designed swimwear label Cozi and hosting both Make Me a Supermodel and this year's cycle of Australia's Next Top Model.

Enough with the profession background  let's get into her style evolution, shall we? From satin bias-cut slips to beauty queen sashes, Jen's worn it all. One thing we've learnt from compiling this celebratory style stalk is that the newly married model isn't afraid of colour, print, or showing off her killer legs. Step inside to see how her look has evolved over the years.

Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall are married! The glamorous Australian couple got hitched late Tuesday afternoon in Bali, which had long been reported as the destination of their overseas wedding. According to News.com.au the bride wore a “meringue-style strapless dress with her hair down” to the ceremony, which was held at the luxurious resort Semara, complete with a picturesque ocean view. It was a small, intimate affair with about 50 family and friends making up the guests.

Jennifer and Jake have signed an exclusive six-figure deal with Woman’s Day (reported to be $350,000) for coverage of their wedding, which will likely hit newsstands next week, so security was high at the nuptials. Jennifer has also previously said that she won’t be changing her name.
