The annual Time 100 Gala inspired another round of red carpet glamour yesterday, with Jessica Biel and Olivia Munn leading the star-studded pack. And what better occasion to dress to the nines than in honour of some of the world's most influential people? With Biel in black, head-to-toe Tom Ford, Munn in bright canary-yellow Michael Kors, and Claire Danes in a more exotic Lanvin look, the night played host to a spectrum of black-tie ensembles. Lena Dunham wore a shimmery number from Saint Laurent's much-discussed Saint Laurent Autumn/Winter '13 collection and Christina Aguilera went the siren route in formfitting Victoria Beckham. Joel Madden, Delta Goodrem and Seal represented the Australian version of The Voice at the premiere of the US show’s fourth season in Hollywood last night (Ricky Martin wasn’t with them). They posed together on the red carpet and did some interviews with American media. When asked by Access Hollywood what could be expected from the second series of the Aussie show, which premieres on April 7, Joel joked that he’ll be “freaking out the whole time! There’s a lot of action, there’s explosions, there’s a lot of fake blood,” while Delta added, “We go all out in Australia. We really go to town.” Joel, Delta and Seal have a bit of downtime before the live shows pick up again, with Delta explaining, “We just did our battles so we’re going back for our lives [shows] in about a month. We’ve got really great talent in Oz this year — all the really arty-artists came out this year so we’re having a lot of fun with them.”
Seal also offered his two cents about the new mix of coaches on the US show this season — Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green are off the panel to focus on their music, and Shakira and Usher are taking their place. Seal said, “On paper it sounds good. We’ll just have to see how it plays out.” Christina and Usher were also on the red carpet last night, as was Blake Shelton with his wife Miranda Lambert.
Awards season got off to a good start with the 2013 People's Choice Awards in LA yesterday. The show was full of big wins, plus plenty of laughs from host Kaley Cuoco and some of her celebrity pals. Jennifer Aniston won favourite comedic movie actress, while Jennifer Lawrence took home favourite dramatic movie actress for The Hunger Games, and the film itself picked up best movie and favourite action movie. The Wanted surprisingly beat out One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen for favourite breakout artist, and Sandra Bullock was honoured for her humanitarian work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Sandra teared up while receiving her award, mentioning that the number one reason she loves NOLA is because of "a little sick boy at home who is my man," referring to her son Louis. There were many more statues handed out, so be sure to check out all the People's Choice Award winners.
Other notable moments from the awards show included Happy Endings star Carly Wilson claiming Ian Somerhalder as her boyfriend, Adam Sandler inviting the audience over to Jennifer Aniston's house for pizza, and Jennifer Lawrence declaring that she wishes she was in Mean Girls so she could break her award and hand pieces out to everyone in the audience. There were also performances by Alicia Keys, Jason Aldean and Christina Aguilera. Jay-Z and Coldplay rang in 2013 together with a joint New Year's Eve concert at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Monday night. Coldplay played the first set while Jay-Z took the stage shortly before midnight. Jay-Z and Chris Martin joined up for the countdown and to sing "Auld Lang Syne." Once Chris was finished belting out the New Year's staple, he flowed into Jay-Z's "Run This Town," filling in for Rihanna's chorus. While Jay-Z and Chris were rocking, Chris's wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, and their children, Apple and Moses, danced on stage. They weren't the only celebrities in the audience since Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted chatting with Jay-Z backstage and Christina Aguilera and her boyfriend, Matt Rutler, were also on hand. Once the concert was over, Chris and Jay-Z headed to the 40/40 Club for an afterparty without Gwyneth, who headed home with Apple and Moses.
Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens and more famous faces came together in Beverly Hills on Thursday night for Samsung's launch of their new Galaxy Note II. The stars got a firsthand look at the handheld device, and some even tried out the phone's special features. Stepping out solo, Liam hung out at the bar and reportedly chatted with partygoers about his engagement news, while Julianne, dressed in an ab-baring blue gown, snapped photos of attendees. Julianne's well-toned body was all over the web earlier this week when the first trailer for Safe Haven was released.
Christina Aguilera took a night off from The Voice US to enjoy live performances from Kendrick Lamar and Toro Y Moi. She snuggled up next to boyfriend Matthew Rutler and posed for a photo with Vanessa. It was a mini-reunion for the cast of The Help, with Octavia Spencer, Allison Janney and director Tate Taylor on hand for the soiree. The party also brought out stars from the small screen — Glee's Amber Riley and Kevin McHale shared some laughs while Hart of Dixie's Jaime King and Scott Porter chatted with friends.
