Some of the most handsome men in the world gathered up in London yesterday for the annual British GQ Men of the Year Awards. Top honorees included designer Tom Ford, who was given his spiffy trophy by none other than pal Justin Timberlake; Emma Watson, who showed off her midriff while chatting with Tom Hiddleston; and Dan Stevens, who had a mini Downton Abbey reunion with former co-star Laura Carmichael (aka Lady Edith) while chatting with friend Eddie Redmayne and his girlfriend, Hannah Bagshawe. Meanwhile, Justin's buddy Pharrell Williams played the social butterfly while mingling between Russell Brand, Samuel L. Jackson, Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley and Elton John. The bash wasn't a good night for plus ones as Justin's wife, Jessica Biel, stayed home and Suki Waterhouse took a solo trip down the red carpet without her handsome man, Bradley Cooper.
Emma Watson made a bold fashion statement in a belly-baring Balenciaga ensemble at the British GQ Men of the Year Awards in London today. The popular actress received the GQ Woman of the Year honour, and she was joined at the Royal Opera House by a host of other stars who also walked away with awards. Her good friend Eddie Redmayne received the Breakthrough Award, while other honours went to Pharrell Williams for Performer of the Year, Tom Ford for Designer of the Year, and Michael Douglas for Legend of the Year. Justin Timberlake, who was the main man at last week’s MTV VMAs, was on hand for presenting duties, saying, “I don’t pop Molly, but I rock Tom Ford,” in reference to Jay Z’s track “Tom Ford” when he took to the stage to bestow the award to the designer. Even though the event was mostly about the guys, there were plenty of beautiful women at the proceedings, including Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Rita Ora, Alexa Chung and Bradley Cooper’s girlfriend Suki Waterhouse.
Emma Watson was the recipient of the MTV Movie Awards golden popcorn trailblazer honour in LA today. The win was even sweeter, since her statue was presented to her by Eddie Redmayne and Logan Lerman. Emma co-starred with Eddie in My Week With Marilyn and played opposed Logan in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Emma and Logan were also in the running for best kiss, though they lost out to Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, and Emma was beaten by Jennifer in the best female performance category. Still, Emma had another reason to celebrate: it's also her 23rd birthday!
Eddie Redmayne went casual on the red carpet at today's MTV Movie Awards in LA. He's there to see if he takes home a golden popcorn in the best breakthrough performance category. He's nominated for his role in Les Misérables, up against The Perks of Being a Wallflower's Ezra Miller, Life of Pi's Suraj Sharma, Beasts of the Southern Wild's Quvenzhané Wallis, and Rebel Wilson of Pitch Perfect. Eddie's in California following a stint at home in London. There he was able to spend time with his girlfriend Hannah Bagshawe, but tonight, though, will give him a chance to mingle with his new Hollywood friends.
Actors Eddie Redmayne, Brit Marling and Emayatzy Corinealdi have been labelled “Hollywood’s fresh new faces” in the April issue of W and were shot by Alasdair McLellan for the magazine. Eddie’s profile has grown dramatically thanks to his role in last year’s Les Misérables and his many appearances over awards season. Brit is garnering attention not only as an actress — she’ll next be seen in The East with Alexander Skarsgård and Ellen Page — but also as a writer, while Emayatzy was heaped with praise and awards for her breakthrough role in Middle of Nowhere. Read on for what the stars said about their careers in W:
- Eddie on auditioning for Les Mis: “I heard about the auditions for Les Mis while I was in a field in North Carolina shooting a movie called Hick, in which I play a paedophile meth addict from Texas with a limp. I was in my Winnebago dressed in a cowboy costume, and I took my iPhone and filmed myself singing my character Marius’ big song.”
- Brit on why she writes: “I knew it was going to be very hard to become an actress. I wasn’t prepared to be Bikini Girl Number 3 or star in Return of the Chainsaw IV. Most of the storytelling in movies is by men, so I wanted to write complex narratives about women. Nothing terrified me more than acting — but fear can be very motivating.”
- Emayatzy on her audition process: “I have always kept an audition log. I write down the project, the casting agent, what I wore, my notes, and how I felt about the audition. When Middle of Nowhere came along, it was something new. I hadn’t read anything like it, and I’d never auditioned for anything similar.”
The man of the hour may be Oscar, but we were more concerned with Brad, Ben, George, Eddie, and the rest of the swoon-worthy actors who brought their A-game to the Oscars tonight. Many of these golden boys donned beards, mustaches, or a five-o'clock shadow with their suited-up looks, but we don't mind a little scruff on those sexy faces. See the hottest men of the Academy Awards now!
Eddie Redmayne cut a dapper figure on the red carpet at today's Oscars. He posed for photos solo — and later with his girlfriend Hannah Bahshawe, who looked lovely with her hair down and in a dark green gown. Eddie is not in the running for any individual honours, but his film Les Miserables is up for best picture. Eddie and his co-stars in the Tom Hooper-directed musical will also apparently break out their singing skills during the show as well.
Anne Hathaway shared laughs and drinks with her Les Misérables co-stars at a special pre-Oscars bash in LA last night. She donned a Theyskens' Theory mini-dress as she celebrated with a Dior-wearing Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne and Isla Fisher, who attended the shindig with her husband, Sacha Baron Cohen. The Les Misérables fete supported the Los Angeles Fund For Public Education, and drew other celebrities like Adrien Brody and Judy Greer. The celebration wasn't to be confused with the separate Vanity Fair party for Silver Linings Playbook, which also benefited education in LA and was held on the same night.
The pre-Oscars parties are just getting started, and the casts of both films will have plenty of chances to celebrate before the Oscars take place on Feb. 25.
The cast of Les Misérables has had an exciting awards season so far! They picked up three Golden Globes, as well as honours at the Critics' Choice and SAG Awards. They also made stops in Paris, Berlin and London where they grabbed four BAFTA Awards. Now the cast is looking ahead toward the grand finale — the Academy Awards — where they are nominated for a total of eight Oscars. Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman both received individual nods from the Academy and the film itself is up for the best picture of the year.
Before Les Misérables faces off against the other nominees at the Oscars on Monday, take a look back at all the fun the cast has had together so far.
