You can't say Donatella Versace doesn't know how to throw a party. Last night, she and designer Jonathan Anderson took over the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City to present the new Versus Versace and JW Anderson's first capsule collection for the brand. But this wasn't just any product launch. Versace managed to fill the space with everyone from industry insiders like Leigh Lezark, Eniko Mihalik, and Harriet Mays Powell, to stars like Heidi Klum, Darren Criss, and Taylor Momsen.
All of them assembled around a big black box in the middle of the room. When illuminated, the box was revealed to be a backstage area enclosed by translucent panels of plastic. From there, models walked down runways on either side of the space before performances by musicians Angel Haze, Dead Sara, and Grimes. And while no one walked away with pieces from the collection, guests did get a special treat at the end of the party: a parcel of differently flavuored doughnut holes served as the goody bag. Case in point: the designer heralded a new era of Versus Versace and debuted JW Anderson's first capsule collection for the brand last night, and to celebrate, Jaime King, Hayden Panettiere, and Heidi Klum dressed up for the occasion. While both Panettiere and Klum selected dresses from Versace's Spring '13 collection, King took the head-to-toe Versus route. And in doing so, the Hart of Dixie star showed off a much more edged-up, safety-pin-included look. Heidi Klum and her kids returned to LA yesterday after holidaying in Hawaii over the Easter weekend. They were all smiles at LAX and were given special VIP treatment when Heidi and her son Henry Samuel rode through the airport on the back of a buggy. Their Hawaiian getaway ended on a dramatic note when Henry and two of their nannies were swept away by a big wave on a beach in Oahu. Heidi and her boyfriend Martin Kristen were on hand to help rescue everyone, and in a statement Heidi said, “We got pulled into the ocean by a big wave. Of course, as a mother, I was very scared for my child and everyone else in the water. Henry is a strong swimmer and was able to swim back to land. We were able to get everyone out safely.”
The stars were out (in full fashion force) at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party and the Vanity Fair party, proving that the red carpet action wasn't just at the show.
