Stars including Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Dakota Fanning, Julia Roberts and Katherine Heigl were out in LA on Thursday night for the AFI Life Achievement Award gala honouring Shirley MacLaine. Plenty of veteran Hollywood actors also paid tribute to Shirley — Morgan Freeman, Jack Nicholson, and Shirley's own brother, Warren Beatty, were on hand. Julia and Katherine both took the stage to lavish praise on Shirley. Julia Roberts said of Shirley, her Steel Magnolias costar, "She has it all, she can do it all . . . How can I put this? She's got balls."

Katherine had more kind words for Shirley. She said, "You taught me this exceptional lesson: to hold my freakin' own." On the red carpet though, Katherine talked about her family, husband Josh Kelley, 3-year-old Naleigh, and newly adopted infant Adalaide. She said, "I definitely want more kids! I think we decided on three, but I'm pushing for four."

Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Dustin Hoffman and More Celebrities at NBA All-Star Game

Celebrities love their basketball, especially when their star status affords them the luxury of a front row seat. Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were among an A-list crowd that came out to watch the NBA All-Star game at the Staples Center. At the half-time point the West was leading the East 76-64 with star player Kobe Bryant leading in the scorers department with 21 points. John Legend watched with his model girlfriend Chrissy Teigen and father-to-be Nick Cannon was without wife Mariah Carey but enjoyed the company of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Birthday girl Rihanna rocked out with a performance during the half-time show with Kanye West, and Lenny Kravitz also took to the stage. Justin got a hug from Benny, the Chicago Bulls mascot, while Bruno Mars took in the action courtside. There were plenty of other stars at the game so flick through the pics to check them out!

How Do You Know: Simply Irresistible

A truly great romantic comedy is hard to come by these days.

A truly great romantic comedy is hard to come by these days. All too often we're subjected to tired cliches, overused personality types, and slapstick comedy in the place of a predictable but uplifting movie about love. With that said, How Do You Know is the rare gem of a love story that has all the right moves: big laughs, enchanting characters, and a sweet aftertaste. The latest from writer/director James L. Brooks (As Good as it Gets) centers on Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) and George (Paul Rudd), as they each face a road block in their thirty-something lives. Lisa, an aging softball player who believes strongly in age-old affirmations, has just been cut from the national team and is struggling to figure out how to spend her time, and more important, whom to spend it with. George, a goofy good guy, thinks he has it all together until he's subpoenaed at work for suspicion of stock fraud and is facing the real possibility of facing jail time for a crime he didn't commit.

The Staples Center was full of celebrities on Friday night with Diddy, Hilary Swank and Sacha Baron Cohen there to cheer on the Lakers as they beat the Hornets 101-97. Inception's Tom Hardy was also on hand, though his new pal Lindsay Lohan didn't join him at the game — she was courtside last night with jewellery design Pascal Mouwad. It was a group outing for the Klum-Samuels, though Heidi and Seal didn't bring baby Lou along. Heidi's fun-loving older children may make their way onto one of her new shows called Seriously Funny Kids, which is set to premiere Feb. 1 in the US, the same network that airs Project Runway and its upcoming spin-off Project Runway: Accessories.

How Do You Know: The Bad Romantic Comedy Formula

As we all know by now, not all romantic comedies are created equal.

As we all know by now, not all romantic comedies are created equal. And most of us have probably seen enough bad rom-coms to know what separates the funny from the lame and the good characters from the bad. What still puzzles us is how top-rate A-listers find themselves cast in movies with predictable characters, stories and not many laughs. (OK, actors aren’t fortune tellers!) How Do You Know is a new movie (out here on Feb. 10) starring Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon and funny guys Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson, but sadly it’s fallen victim to harsh reviews and apparently has all the best bits of the movie in the trailer. ABC News compiled a quick vid on why we should’ve seen a rom-com miss coming our way.

Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep were among those who dressed up Thursday night to honour the career of legendary director Mike Nichols. The women were joined by stars from many of Mike's famous films like Dustin Hoffman, who starred in The Graduate, Emma Thompson, Natalie Portman and Tom Hanks. Julia took the stage to toast Mike, saying, "Mike is one of the few people in the world who's an 'EGOT'—it means he's won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony." She mingled with Oprah Winfrey afterward to catch up since their last chat about Eat, Pray, Love. Harrison Ford also shared kind words about Mike, but he spent most of the evening cuddling up to longtime love Calista Flockhart. The evening was notable for another reason—John Goodman showed off his dramatic weight loss and he made the rounds chatting with Hollywood veterans like Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty.

Hollywood's Hottest Couples Make It a Lakers Date Night

LA's Staples Center was full of love yesterday as Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli headed out to see the Lakers beat the Orlando Magic.

LA's Staples Center was full of love yesterday as Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Leonardo DiCaprio and Bar Refaeli headed out to see the Lakers beat the Orlando Magic. It was a low-key evening at the basketball for Penelope after the Golden Globes, where she hit the red carpet in a tight black gown before watching the main event and hitting the afterparties with her costars in Nine. Javier skipped out on the award show, as did Bar, though Leonardo was there to support his friend Martin Scorsese. Penelope and Javier took in the game from a few rows back, but Leo and Bar were front and centre. Leo often brings his boys along to games, so things with Bar must really be back on track if she's his pick for courtside companionship.
