The trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green takes a sad subject — a couple's infertility — and uses it as the basis for a magical, and possibly uplifting, film. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton play Cindy and Jim, a married couple who are happy together, but have just given up on their dream of conceiving a child. Downtrodden, they make a wish list for the qualities they would want their kid to have, and then bury the list in the backyard. Imagine their surprise when a young boy shows up in their own backyard boasting a checklist of personality traits eerily similar to those on the list they had made. The preview is a little contrived, but it has an element of bittersweetness to it that disarms. See if you can take watching Cindy and Jim craft their list and do things like faux-cheer for the kid they think they'll never have, and then watch as Timothy come into their lives. Is he really theirs? We won't know until the film comes out, but darned if the trailer doesn't make you want to believe it. To see the trailer just read more.

I love this - I don't think there are enough of these kind of magical realism; Big Fish; Tuck Everlasting; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button kind of movies (and I didn't even like BB - I just like this genre). It looks sweet and sad; hopefully it's well-written...
