Portia de Rossi talks to Oprah Winfrey about anorexia, bulimia, wife Ellen Degeneres and weighing 82 pounds
Video: Portia Talks To Oprah About Her Battle With Anorexia
Australian actress Portia de Rossi is promoting her new book, Unbearable Lightness, and sat down with Oprah Winfrey to tell her story. In the tell-all she reveals her 20-year battle with anorexia, bulimia and coming to terms with her sexuality. During her Oprah appearance, which airs Monday in the US, she says she once weighed only 37 kilograms and restricted herself to 300 calories a day.
Portia says when moved to Hollywood and landed a role on Ally McBeal opposite Calista Flockhart, her anorexia got worse. She eventually ended up collapsing on a movie set, where producers forced her to see a doctor who diagnosed her with osteoporosis, lupus, possible cirrohosis and told her that her organs were barely functioning. Portia was finally able to conquer her eating disorder and come out of the closet when she met wife Ellen Degeneres. Check out an excerpt from the interview and let me know what you think.
