Samantha Stosur Wins 2011 US Open Women's Final Defeating Serena Williams

Samantha Stosur has won the US Open! Sam is the first Australian woman to win a singles grand slam title in 31 years, the last being Evonne Goolagong Cawley at Wimbledon in 1980. It’s also the first time in 10 years that an Aussie has won the US Open, with the last being Lleyton Hewitt’s victory over Pete Sampras in 2001. Sam defeated Serena Williams in straight sets, 6-2; 6-3, at Arthur Ashe Stadium in a match that went for 1 hour 13 minutes. Serena lost her cool at the beginning of the second set when she shouted, “Come on!” as Sam was about to hit the ball, causing the chair umpire to give her a one-point penalty for verbal hindrance. But at the end of the match, Serena said, “I tried my hardest but she just kept hitting winners.” Victorious Sam, who jumped up to her players box after her win, is grateful for all the Aussies watching her: “To everyone back at home for supporting me, I don’t know what to say . . . thank you.”

The BET Awards celebrated the largest names in hip-hop and R&B with wild fashion, high-energy dance routines, and a mini scandal at LA's Shrine Auditorium yesterday. The show kicked off with a mash-up of hits from Mary J. Blige before the awards were dished out to the night's winners. Taking a break from touring with Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj joined Justin Bieber to present the best male hip-hop artist award to Kanye West. Nicki didn't go home empty handed as she took home the honours for best female hip-hop artist. Justin was without his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, but he was in the company of pals Jaden and Willow Smith, who stepped out with their parents, Will and Jada, and the siblings shared the win in the young stars category.

Oprah's Final Episodes Draw a Celebrity-Packed Guestlist

It’s nothing but the best for the reigning queen of talk show TV!

It’s nothing but the best for the reigning queen of talk show TV! A who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list and the biggest names in music joined forces to give Oprah Winfrey one of the most star-studded send-offs in television. As you know, Oprah is wrapping up 25 years of her successful talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, to focus her energy on her network, OWN. She just taped her third and second-last episodes at the United Center in Chicago, which are set to air next week (Channel Ten will screen them around the same time), and as the title Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular suggests, all the guest appearances and performances were kept hidden from Oprah until she saw them on stage at the same time as the audience.

The arena was filled with some 13,000 lucky guests who were able to experience the historical TV moment. Tom Hanks acted as MC, telling Oprah, “Today you are surrounded by nothing but love.” Then more big names took their turns on the stage, gushing about Oprah and all she had achieved during her quarter-century on air, including Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Madonna, Diane Sawyer, Dakota Fanning, Halle Berry, Queen Latifah, Jerry Seinfeld, Simon Cowell, Rosie O’Donnell, Michael Jordan, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. There were performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Beyoncé (who had to tape hers twice due to technical problems the first time), Jamie Foxx and Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban and Patti LaBelle, Kristin Chenoweth, Alicia Keys, Usher and Aretha Franklin.

She teamed up with Jeff Bridges, who took a turn as the Beast, and in the other new shots we see Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen from Snow White (with Alec Baldwin as the Magic Mirror) and Queen Latifah as Ursula from The Little Mermaid. They join a huge group of other Hollywood heavyweights who have posed for the famed photographer, including Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella, Julianne Moore as Ariel and David Beckham as Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty. COVERGIRL rounded up its beautiful spokesmodels last night for a bash after the People's Choice Awards in LA.

COVERGIRL rounded up its beautiful spokesmodels last night for a bash after the People's Choice Awards in LA. Queen Latifah, fresh off hosting the show, attended the event with a brightly dressed Drew Barrymore, Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres and Niki Taylor. Ellen and Taylor seemed to be in especially great moods as they hammed it up for the cameras and laughed their way past the photographers with Portia de Rossi. Taylor had lots to celebrate despite recently splitting from Jake Gyllenhaal — she ranked among the best dressed of the night and took home the favourite country artist honour. Check out the full list of winners! Lauren Conrad skipped out on joining the other lovely ladies on the blue carpet, but she turned out for the beauty brand's bash, as did her fellow MTV starlet Whitney Port.

Twilight, Natalie, Jennifer and Johnny Light Up People's Choice Awards!

The People's Choice Awards kicked off a very glamorous upcoming two months with a bang last night.

The People's Choice Awards kicked off a very glamorous upcoming two months with a bang last night. It was a beautiful LA evening for all the stars to step off and celebrate the start of award season, the fans, and each other. Queen Latifah was once again the show's hostess, and she got to have fun on stage from start to finish. There were some awesome A-list surprise guests, like Jennifer Aniston, who presented to Just Go With It co-star Adam Sandler, and Johnny Depp who gracefully accepted his statue and passed on a hello to Taylor Swift from his daughter. The red carpet was full of short dresses, but one of the night's most sassy minis was Kristen Stewart's sparkly frock. Her makeup and hair were also perfect for the event and made her look bright and happy despite flying straight to the show from a long day of shooting Breaking Dawn in Louisiana. She missed the arrivals line, but showed off her sweet chemistry with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner accepting Eclipse's handful of wins — check out the full list of winners here. Robert gave us a bit of a laugh to close the show, while all three Twilight stars were game for some light teasing from Latifah during an interlude. Kid Rock and Selena Gomez and the Scene provided the musical performances, while Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were the female acts chosen by their fans. Pregnant Natalie Portman flashed a smile and her new engagement ring after meeting up with her Black Swan co-star Mila Kunis backstage. There are many more exciting and memorable pictures from the show, so check them all out and stay tuned for other highlights!

Kanye and Alicia Wow at the BET Awards With Emotional Chris Brown

Kanye West had the honour of opening last night's BET Awards in LA with a performance of his new song "Power."

Kanye West had the honour of opening last night's BET Awards in LA with a performance of his new song "Power." Joining Kanye were some of music's most famous faces, including a fresh-from-NYC Alicia Keys. Alicia was one of the evening's big winners with two statues for Best Female R&B Artist and Best Collaboration with "Empire State of Mind." Alicia took the stage to sing, but she covered her growing baby bump with a little purple dress. The show's most interesting performance may well have come from Chris Brown, who broke down in tears during an emotional Michael Jackson tribute. Drake's first official album came out only two weeks ago, but that didn't get in the way of him winning Best Male Hip-Hop Artist of the Year. Eminem took the next step in his exciting comeback by having his album debut at the top spot and he was at the ceremony to perform "Not Afraid." Usher and T.I. also serenaded the crowd but denied our shirtless wishes by keeping their tops on. Lady Gaga and Beyonce, meanwhile, weren't on hand to take home their Video of the Year honour for their nearly 10-minute long "Telephone"—check the full list of winners!

Movie Preview: Queen Latifah and Common in Just Wright

Queen Latifah may not be the most critically-acclaimed actress, but there's no denying that the woman's likable.

Queen Latifah may not be the most critically-acclaimed actress, but there's no denying that the woman's likable. In her upcoming film Just Wright, she plays a physical therapist named Leslie Wright who treats an NBA star (Common) to bring him back to peak condition. Her closest friend Morgan (Paula Patton) takes a liking to him and they begin dating until Morgan realises his career (and baller status) is in jeopardy and bails. Leslie is there to pick up the pieces, but as she gets closer, things take a romantic turn. I know it seems like I just gave the whole movie away, but trust me, it's all in the trailer. It's a formula really: Latifah is the tough (but sensitive!) career woman who can't find the right man; her inspirational song "Champion" plays in the background. That doesn't mean it won't rope me in though, at least as a rental later on. But take a peek and tell me your take.
