Kim Cattrall turn 56 yesterday, and in our opinion, she's as sexy as ever. We're still convinced that she is Samantha Jones (not a bad thing), so it wouldn't be a true birthday celebration without a closer look at her iconic Sex and the City character's wardrobe. Sure, we've salivated over Carrie's city-girl outfits and were smitten with Charlotte's posh Upper East Sider ensembles, but a lot of the time, it was Samantha Jones's sex-bomb style that left a lasting impression. This was one woman who lived for colour, statement jewels, oversize hats, and anything else that was particularly eye-catching. In honour of Kim Cattrall's birthday, here are our favourite scene-stealing style moments courtesy of Samantha Jones.
Helen Gurley Brown, the long-time editor of US Cosmopolitan magazine passed away yesterday aged 90, in a New York hospital. The award winning advertising copywriter turned novelist was hired to turn around the then flailing masthead for Hearst in 1965, increasing its readership and subsequently its then coverprice from 35 cents to 50 and then 60 cents within four issues. Gurley Brown used her impressive 32 year tenure at Cosmopolitan to further the cause of the "fun and fearless" woman, introducing the male centrefold and ultimately showingher reader "how to get everything out of life... the money, recognition, success, men, prestige, authority, dignity... whatever she is looking at through the glass her nose is pressed against. Helen also penned the best-selling novel "Sex and the Single Girl" as well as other provocative-for-their-time titles "Sex in the Office" and "The Late Show: A Semiwild but Practical Survival Plan for Women Over 50." Step inside to pay tribute the fearless editrix and her fabulous sense of style.
It's been billed as this generation's answer to Sex and the City, but it's safe to say GIRLS is a more realistic look inside the lives of twentysomething women. Set in New York (where else?!), Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna awkwardly navigate their way around those precious but horrific moments in life that we all have — but might not always talk about. While we continue to wonder how Carrie can afford all those Manolo Blahniks, the lead character in GIRLS, Hannah, confronts the little issue of feeding herself and paying her rent after her parents decide to stop giving her money. The show covers all the fun stuff (insert sarcasm here) that we ladies deal with day-to-day in our late teens and early twenties — like our virginity, STDs, boy dramas, money problems, jobs problems (I could go on forever here!) — but it's written in a way that you'll not only relate to, but laugh out loud at as well. Written and directed by Lena Dunham, who also plays the character of Hannah, check out HBO's video featuring Lena in conversation with the show's executive producer, Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids).
GIRLS premieres in Australia on FOXTEL's showcase channel tonight at 8:30 p.m. — and as an added bonus, it's a double episode!
Carrie Bradshaw is coming back to TV — but not as the sex columnist we all know and love. The Carrie Diaries will follow Miss Bradshaw through her teen years, and from the looks of this picture, she caught the fashion bug pretty early on. Here's the first official image of AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie, in what's an obvious nod to the ensemble that Sarah Jessica Parker rocks in the opening credits of Sex and the City. Robb looks pretty adorable set against the NYC backdrop, and she's definitely rocking Carrie's signature style. How do you feel about Carrie 2.0?
It's Sarah Jessica Parker's 47th birthday today! To celebrate the only know we know how, we're reminiscing about all the amazing fashion moments from the show that made her fashion icon. As Carrie Bradshaw, there aren't enough positive adjectives to describe this SJP's impeccable, risk-taking flair. She constantly pushed her style to another level, yet never took it to a kooky place. From crop tops to Manolos, fur coats to Fendi, Carrie provided an endless amount of eye candy, insurmountable inspiration. Here's to Carrie, we mean Sarah's inimitable on-screen style! Sex and the City isn't just popular with video bootleggers: according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's list of top seizures, it's also the most popular counterfeit perfume, WWD reports. Out of 138 commercial perfume shipments Customs intercepted for counterfeit scents, 52 contained fake SATC fragrances. And in total, the agency seized more than a million bogus bottles of the stuff last year. Fake perfumes aren't just a problem for the company that makes them legally, either. "In addition to the economic harm," Customs said in its statement, "counterfeit perfumes are also often contaminated with unknown chemicals that can cause serious injury." There's no regulation on this stuff, and tests have found some truly heinous ingredients, from urine to known carcinogens. So when it comes to perfume, you're almost always better off paying full price. Carrie wouldn't tolerate a knockoff, and neither should you.
We've been waiting patiently for more news about The Carrie Diaries and today, we're happy to report that the pilot has been picked up by The CW . Now, the only question that remains is which lucky actresses will be nabbed for the roles of young Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda? Details are TBD, but we're guessing these lucky girls will be decked out in some serious designer clothes and accessories. To get you excited for what's to come, check out some of our favourite SATC fashion moments from the past. Photos courtesy of HBO
