Over the past few days we’ve been keeping track of the reality TV musical chairs concerning the judging panels for two popular Aussie shows: Australia’s Got Talent and The X Factor. Earlier this week it was confirmed that Channel Nine had signed UK stars Mel B and Dawn French for AGT, which it poached from Channel Seven last year, and last night they unveiled the promos for their third judge — Timomatic (real name Tim Omaji), who was runner-up on the 2011 series of AGT on Seven. It’s expected that Kyle Sandilands will be announced as the fourth judge on the extended panel today, making him the only judge to move with the show between the networks.

Dawn French Joins Mel B as an Australia's Got Talent Judge

Channel Nine has announced UK comedy star Dawn French as the second judge for the 2013 series of Australia’s Got Talent, joining Mel B on the panel.

Channel Nine has announced UK comedy star Dawn French as the second judge for the 2013 series of Australia’s Got Talent, joining Mel B on the panel. You’d be forgiven for thinking the show was Britain’s Got Talent, but there are reports that the final two judges — Channel Nine is extending the talent from three to four — will be Australian. Dawn, best known for her work in The Vicar of Dibley and her comedy sketch show French and Saunders with Jennifer Saunders, has been praised as Nine’s head of television Michael Healy as “widely recognised and adored by Australians and her contribution to the show will deliver on our promise for a bigger and better series.”

There has also been buzz about what will happen to the 2013 series of The X Factor. Mel B’s new commitment to AGT and Channel Nine means she won’t be returning to The X Factor, and in a case of reality TV musical chairs, Dannii Minogue, who judged Australia’s Got Talent on Channel Seven for years, is tipped to take her place. Reports also say that Guy Sebastian is considering leaving the show to focus on his own music.

Britney Spears Officially Leaves The X Factor

Britney Spears announced that she's leaving The X Factor US today.

Britney Spears announced that she's leaving The X Factor US today. She shared the news after speculation came out earlier this week that she would not be returning for the third season. Britney released a statement, saying: "I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges, and I am so proud of my teens, but it's time for me to get back in the studio. Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most." While we'll miss watching Brit's hilariously harsh critiques, we're excited to see what she does next!

The Week in Pictures: Miss Universe, Jessica Mauboy, Les Misérables & more!

As we fly towards Christmas, the celebrity events are all slowing down, allowing our favourite stars some time to spend with their families and loved ones.

As we fly towards Christmas, the celebrity events are all slowing down, allowing our favourite stars some time to spend with their families and loved ones. But don't let that fool you — many stars were still out in force this week! Hugh Jackman, Eddie Redmayne, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried continued their hectic press tour schedule with another Les Misérables event in Los Angeles — lucky they all like each other so much! Elsewhere, Aussie singer (and star of film The Sapphires) Jessica Mauboy represented at the Dubai International Film Festival, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles kept each other company at a tattoo parlour, and one gorgeous celebrity announced her pregnancy. Then there was Miss Universe — USA may have taken the crown, but Miss Universe Australia Renae Ayris did us proud when she placed third runner-up. Best of 2012: What Is Your Favourite Reality Show of the Year?

2012 was another huge year for reality TV, particularly Australian shows that continued to bring in high ratings for the commercial networks.

2012 was another huge year for reality TV, particularly Australian shows that continued to bring in high ratings for the commercial networks. My Kitchen Rules got the cooking shows started while newcomer The Voice blew everyone away with its superstar coaches, spinning red chairs and, well, amazing voices. The Block was once again a great mix of couples drama and home renovation, and Big Brother returned to the small screen after a four-year hiatus with a new network, a new look and a new host. MasterChef took a back-to-basics approach (and cooked up an All Stars spin-off) and The X Factor wrapped things up by giving us Australia’s new pop princess. Yep, we watched a lot of reality TV, but these are the ones that hooked us in the most. The question is: which one was your pick for 2012?

The 2012 series of The X Factor ended on a high last night when 25-year-old Samantha Jade was announced as the winner. The Perth native, who was guided through the competition by her friend, Guy Sebastian, beat Jason Owen and The Collective to a Sony Music recording contract, with her debut single "What You've Done to Me" available on iTunes now. Sammi doesn’t just have the amazing voice and looks — she truly is the sweetest girl and still can’t believe her winning result, or that she has fans! I caught up with Sammi this morning to talk about the highs and lows of this year’s X Factor.

Congratulations!
Thank you so much! I am just so happy. I am beyond happy. I honestly cannot believe it, still!

What did you do to celebrate last night? I know there was an after party.
There was an after party, yep, so I went to that for a little while, and all the contestants were there so it was so nice to party with them — we’ve all worked so hard so it was really good to let our hair down! And then I went home because my feet felt like they were bleeding, because I was still in the shoes I performed in. I was like, ‘Nope, I can’t even stand any longer.’ And then I hung out with some of my family.

Who Will Win The X Factor 2012?

Tonight Australia will have a new winner of The X Factor, and it will be one of the following three acts: The Collective, Samantha Jade or Jason Owen.

Tonight Australia will have a new winner of The X Factor, and it will be one of the following three acts: The Collective, Samantha Jade or Jason Owen. Last night, in the first part of the grand finale decider, the remaining finalists each performed three times — their audition song, their potential winner’s single, and one more popular track. It was a celebration of how far they’ve all come over the past few months, with the judges, Mel B, Guy Sebastian, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Ronan Keating, all commenting on how far they had come, often leading the standing ovations.

But ultimately the winner comes down to the public’s vote, and at this stage there’s no clear frontrunner. The Collective, who were put together on the show by the judges, One Direction-style, kicked off the series strongly and quickly earned thousands of female fans, but in the last few weeks they’ve been in the bottom two. Samantha Jade has been in the bottom two the most of the remaining three but has peaked towards the end of the competition. And Jason has been given the title of most improved — from his makeover to his singing — and has never had to sing for his life. So who do you think will win The X Factor?

The X Factor Grand Finale Decider airs tonight at 7:30 p.m. on Channel Seven.
