The True Blood hunk looks dapper in a suit and velvet bow tie, and while his hit show isn't actually nominated for anything this year he's still there representing the Aussies! We can look forward to more of an Aussie invasion on the red carpet as Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush, Jacki Weaver, Toni Collette and Sia are all nominated.

In addition to starring in True Blood, he also managed to squeeze in three films—Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Griff the Invisible and Red Hill. We get a little bit excited when Ryan Kwanten returns to Australia for the second time in two weeks. Surely that means they're one step closer to filming True Blood here, right? Sexy Ryan (his full name) took out the GQ Man of the Year Award at the Sydney Opera House last night and we couldn't have picked a better winner ourselves. The gorgeous Jessica Marais and her fiancé James Stewart, along with Lara Bingle, Rhada Mitchell, Firass Dirani, Curtis Stone and Nicole Trunfio joined Ryan and the GQ Australia crew to celebrate. The boys must have organised beforehand to go super-slick as Ryan, Firass and Jason Dundas all sported some serious hair gel. The girls rocked a more chillaxed vibe with teased hair, worn up or down, but Jess Marais came out on top thanks to her gorgeous peach lip. LOVE. Check out all the looks, including Lara's new hair!

As we predicted, Ryan Kwanten was awarded the GQ Man of the Year Award last night at the Sydney Opera House.

As we predicted, Ryan Kwanten was awarded the GQ Man of the Year Award last night at the Sydney Opera House. Ryan flew in yesterday and is heading back to the set of True Blood today and admitted that he still may have been a bit hungover from his 34th birthday celebration over the weekend in Chicago. Underbelly star Firass Dirani took out the TV Actor of the Year wearing an eggplant-coloured Gucci blazer, while Curtis Stone was awarded the Chef of the Year by his mum. Other winners included Josh Thomas, who won in the comedian category, Ben Mendelsohn, who won best actor and Mark Webber who took out the sportsman of the year award. Aussie stars on the red carpet included Lara Bingle, Jessica Marais, James Stewart, Jess McNamee, Chris Brown, Radha Mitchell, Nicole Trunfio, Claudia Karvan and Matt Preston. We love Ryan Kwanten at Sugar HQ. Not just because he’s an Aussie boy made good in Hollywood, but because he seems like the most adorable guy ever (when Bella saw him in person at a Red Hill Q&A session, she said he answered questions while eating a choc-top. Bless). On the career front, he’s come a long way from playing Vinnie Patterson on Home and Away, which is probably thanks to a lot of sexy shirtless action on True Blood. But he’s more than just eye candy; he’s shown his range by voicing an animated owl, fighting for his life against a murderer in Red Hill, and will soon switch sides and play a murderer when he gets to work as Charles Manson. So we can get used to seeing heaps more of Ryan! He’s turning 34 this weekend, so to celebrate we’ve compiled his career highlights. Have a good one, Ryan!

Ryan Kwanten may be a big star in Hollywood, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. He hit the big time as Jason Stackhouse in True Blood and returned last year to film Red Hill in Victoria. The movie also stars Steve Bisley and Claire van der Bloom and Ryan plays a young police officer who must survive his first day’s duty in a small country town. Red Hill premiered at this year’s Sydney Film Festival in June and hit theatres Thursday.
