Competing in an Obstacle Race? Don't Wear Cotton!

Throughout the months of July and August, brave racers will compete in Greatest Athlete Adventure Race, only the obstacle race of 2013.

Throughout the months of July and August, brave racers will compete in Greatest Athlete Adventure Race, only the obstacle race of 2013. A TV series and now also open to the public, the race tests resilience, strength, and mental endurance. In fact, if you think you've got what it takes, you can enter the TV Challenge to go in the running (literally) to be on the show!

Now your race-day outfit is probably the last thing on your mind, but owner of Agoga and Greatest Athlete Adventure Race ambassador, Libby Babet, says cotton is your worst enemy.

“Whether it’s in your shirt, shoes, shorts socks, or underwear, cotton will absorb the wetness (and muck) and you’ll be left with that oh-so-satisfying feeling of wearing an adult diaper,” she says.

“Take a tip from triathletes when you’re getting dressed: synthetic fibers in body-hugging designs make the fastest and most efficient outfits. Loose-fitting clothes can get snagged on obstacles, grabbed accidentally (or not) by other racers, and even obscure your view. Chafing, blisters, and a couple hours of discomfort could be unwelcome additions to your race if you choose the wrong gear or a wickedly uncomfortable costume,” she says.

At just 22 years old, she plays soccer and cricket for Australia. We know — gifted. On board as an ambassador for Adidas' Spring/Summer 2013 collection, we sat down with the very eloquent teenage prodigy, Ellyse Perry, while on-set for the campaign shoot.

What it’s been like growing up as a professional athlete, while your friends indulge in normal teenage behaviour?
"Truly for me, the biggest thing is that I don’t feel like I missed out on any of that, in the sense that I went to school and finished school and stayed in contact with all of my friends. I go to uni now so I always stayed in contact, and had the opportunity to interact with my peers in all different sorts of things, not just with the ones who played sport."

New Cookbook: Curtis Stone's What's For Dinner?

Earlier this week in Sydney, Australia chef Curtis Stone held an intimate dinner to launch his new cookbook, What's For Dinner?

Earlier this week in Sydney, Australia chef Curtis Stone held an intimate dinner to launch his new cookbook, What's For Dinner? US-based Curtis wrote the book to help tackle the age-old problem of cooking healthy meals when you have a busy schedule.

Each chapter is dedicated to a different day of the week, with titles including Motivating Monday — think healthy meals to kick off the week right, like fennel-roasted chicken and grilled shrimp and rice noodle salad — and Thrifty Thursday (we've all been there!), where Stone recommends cheap but nutritious meals like sliders with red onion marmalade and blue cheese; and roasted cauliflower, broccoli, and pasta bake with cheddar.

"Healthy is not low carb, low cal, low taste — it's about balance," he told smh.com.au. "Just don't have huge serves. Smaller tastes of good produce will make you really happy and the health comes through."

We couldn't agree more. You can purchase What's For Dinner? at Curtis' website, it's certainly one we'll be adding to our list of favourites.

Nike She Runs: Post-Event Report

A big congratulations to all the women who competed in the Nike She Runs event at Centennial Park on Saturday.

A big congratulations to all the women who competed in the Nike She Runs event at Centennial Park on Saturday. Impressively, tickets sold out almost immediately to the 6000-strong female only race, headed up by ambassadors Jodi Anasta, Rhiannon Fish and Olympics hopeful, Kelly Hetherington. Centennial Park was transformed into what can only be described as a fitness festival, with acts including The Faders performing after the 10km race.

The track was decked-out with light shows, music and motivational words and images — you could even get a hair tie if you needed one! POPSUGAR Fashion's editor, Ali, competed in the race and beat her personal best, so stay tuned to find out what her training regime included, along with an interview with Jodi Anasta about her She Runs diet leading up to the race. Finally, congratulations to Victoria Mitchell, who won the race in 34 minutes and nine seconds. All her hard work has paid off, and she's set to receive an all-expenses paid trip for her and a friend to the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco in October.
