This week my goal was find the energy to keep up with my busy life. You know what it's like, right? Going non-stop at work only to get home and have a million other commitments waiting for you; relationships to nurture, friends to keep up with, family functions to attend. Add to that an impending 10K running race the small thing of planning a wedding and, well, yes. You get my drift. I'm busy. And I often feel pretty flat as a result. So I hauled in the experts this week and went about documenting how I could boost and stabilise my energy levels by taking their advice. From naturopath to nutritionist, personal trainer to meditation guru — it was quite the learning curve! So . . . did I get the spring back in my step? You'll have to click through my diary to see . . .
The PopSugar Diaries: Ali Searches for Outside the Box Energy Boosters
On my journey to a more energy-filled existence, I've hit up the usual expert-suspects: a naturopath to get my diet supplements sorted, Nike's global trainer to kick my exercise routine into shape and yesterday my diet got an overhaul thanks to nutritionist. I wanted to know what sort of alternative remedies could complement my new vitality-boosting regime. I turned to Pilates instructor, journalist and meditation guru Solveig Walkling of Mind Body & Sol, hoping she could suggest some outside-the-box ideas on how I get, and keep, that spring in my step. From spiky floor mats to Deepak Chopra, she had some interesting things to say . . .
The PopSugar Diaries: Ali Tries Eating for Energy
Forget Lanvin and Louboutin, the biggest luxury for me is sleep. My schedule is pretty hectic, a 7am start to the work-day starts, a busy social life, loads of after-work work functions, training for a half marathon, and the not-so-small task of organising a wedding — my energy levels often suffer due to my jam-packed life. I want to bound out of bed (actually, I'd settle for just not dragging myself out of bed!) and to quit snapping at my fiancé after a long day (sorry babe). My personal challenge: to nurture and stabilize my natural energy levels. After sorting my dietary supplements and mixing up my exercise routine, I was keen to makeover my diet. I quizzed Aimee Devlin, an Integrative Nutritionist and Certified Health Coach, on how I can eat my way to vitality.
The PopSugar Diaries: Ali Energizes with Expert Running Tips
I've got a problem. I love the satisfaction of finishing a running race, but find it hard to find the energy to put in the training. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than clocking an eight or nine kilometre run after a long day at work! You see, I've signed up for the Nike She Runs The Night 10k race in May, and am keen to try for the Sydney Blackmores half marathon (that's 21k!) in September, so I need to kick my sluggish 'tude so I can get my training back on track. I love the rush of crossing that finish line, but want to do so without getting run-down (cue viral infections and days off work) and non-existent energy levels. I went to Nike's global trainer Marie Purvis to ask her how I can avoid burnout and get that spring back in my step. See what she said!
The POPSUGAR Diaries: Ali Searches for Supplements to Boost Energy
Hi, my name is Ali and I am a high-speed junkie. And I mean that in the non-speeding fine kinda way. My life is fast-paced, much by choice. I like my aerobics classes fast, my coffee strong, my deadlines tight and my social life jam-packed. The result is a fun-filled calendar, but my-gosh sometimes I feel flat. This week you're going to get an intimate view into how I'm trying to nourish, stabilize and generally boost my energy levels. First port of call? The mysterious world of health supplements. Popping a magical pill to boost energy levels definitely appeals — but will swallowing a handful of vitamins really put a spring in my step? I was skeptical. Chloryphil versus flaxseed? Vitamin B versus fish oil capsules? I was keen to get beyond the hype and find out what (if any) dietry supplements could help my energy levels. I asked naturopath Kathleen Murphy to set me on the right path. See how I did...
Celeb Valentine's Day Style & Beauty Tricks Revealed: Isabelle, Lisa, Gail & Jesinta!
When the Sugar crew hit the David Jones Autumn Winter fashion launch we had our game faces on. Not only were Bella and I snooping backstage, bailing up the Stenmark boys and sitting down with Miranda Kerr — but PopSugar editor Jess was front and centre on the red carpet. She asked some of Australia's most consistently stylish women what their beauty and fashion tricks were for Valentine's Day date-night. From the Gail Elliott's lipgloss obsession to Isabelle Cornish's signature style — It's all a mere click away . . .
Your Backstage Pass to the David Jones Fashion Launch
It was a fashion and beauty dream-team last night, when Bella and I combined our model-stalking powers to go behind the scenes at the 2013 David Jones Autumn/Winter fashion launch. Before the celebrities walked the red carpet, before Miranda slipped into her first of many exits, before the (Veuve) champagne was served, we were on deck to scope the making of this bi-annual fashion extravaganza. We chatted with Miranda — lusting over her Ryan Storer ear candy in the process, bailed up the mega-adorable Stenmark twins, hosted a round-table discussion with Jessica Gomes, Samantha Harris and Bambi Northwood-Blyth, got the D.L on Napoleon's "2013 smokey eye" ... and that was still hours before that brave model hopped onto her two storey-high perch above the red rug. Phew! It was hectic, but by gosh it was worth it. From the makeup den to the dressing rooms to the front row, consider this your all areas access pass.
Congratulations Rachael Finch! All the Wedding Details

A big congratulations goes out to Rachael Finch! The former Miss Universe Australia married her beau Michael Miziner, whom she met on set of Dancing with the Stars, in a private ceremony in Woolahra in Sydney's east yesterday afternoon. The pair have, according to the The Sydney Morning Herald, signed a magazine deal with New Idea for the the exclusive coverage of their nuptials, so we'll have to wait for the issue to hit stands before we see pictures of the dress (boo). Rachael reportedly wore a low-backed, fishtail style gown by designer to the stars Steven Khalil, who also designed Kate Ritchie's wedding dress.
Rachael has previously said of her fiancé "He's like having a girlfriend to organise the wedding with . . . He's really involved — from music, to invitations, to bridesmaids dresses to locations, he's across every detail and we discuss everything." Rachael and Michael must have made quite the wedding-planning team! Sounds like things went smoothly yesterday, with the bride tweeting "Beyond a perfect day." Congratulations again to the happy couple.
Copy Now: Jennifer Lopez's Lucious Locks, C/o Her Harper's Bazaar Cover
Ms Lopez, we must congratulate you on that hair! Jennifer Lopez works some serious tress-volume for the February edition of US Harper's Bazaar, managing to pull off the full-volumed look without veering into scary 'fro territory. A straight centre part and sleek top section keeps things modern, but the brushed out mid-lengths ramps up the glam-factor and gives the whole look a slightly '70s silhouette. We likey! The easiest way to recreate is with a set of hot rollers. Divide hair into six or eight sections — depending on the thickness of your hair — and roll up and under towards the crown, but only three quarters of the way. When cool, unroll and spray with hair spray before brushing out with a boar-bristled brush — teasing the ends slightly to finish. Flip upside down, spray again, flip back and voila! Locks J.Lo herself would be proud of. Step inside to get a closer look at Jennifer's glamorous shoot. Images courtesy of Katjia Rawles and US Harper's Bazaar.
Hello Kitty! K$sha's Second, Super Sweet Seventeen Cover
We're used to seeing K$sha dial up the glam-factor to ten with a smoky eye, dishevelled locks and her trademark blue lipstick, so we were surprised to see her looking so, urm, sweet on the latest cover of Seventeen. The songstress is all glowy skin, lilac eyes and smiles for the February edition, accessorising her fresh new look with a floral garland and a kitten. Yes, a kitten. This is the second cover K$sha has scored with the teen glossy, appearing back in November 2010 sporting a leopard print top and a statement turquoise flicked eye. We're putting this one out to you — which look to you prefer? Sweet and fresh-faced or rock 'n' roll ready?
See Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris' Wedding Pictures
Hugh Hefner and girlfriend Crystal Harris celebrated the new year by getting married. The pair wed on New Year's Eve at home at the Playboy mansion with Hef's long-time friend Keith serving as best man. The couple's cute puppy Charlie was also part of the bridal party, wearing a tuxedo for the occasion. Crystal, 26, wore a pale pink, strapless mermaid-style gown with a textured skirt and carried a mixed bouquet of pink, purple and white blooms to wed her 86 year old beau. The pair were all set to wed back in June in 2011 but Crystal called off the wedding only days prior. Obviously the two have since worked things out, with the happy couple both tweeting pictures of their big day. Take a look!

The 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: See all the pics, then watch it tonight!
Hold on to your hats peeps, because the 2012 Victoria’s Secret fashion show is about to hit your TV screens. We’ve already seen the Angels' prep and squizzed their cute ‘n’ candid shots thanks to social media — but now, the real deal is here. Victoria’s Secret veterans Alessandra Ambrosio (in her $2.5 million dollar Fantasy Bra thanks very much), Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel and Doutzen Kroes took to the runway last month like the pros that they are, joined by fresh faces Cara Delevingne, Hilary Rhoda and Jourdan Dunn. Karlie Kloss’ new bob magically transformed into a lush mane, while Jessica Hart, Shanina Shaik and Miranda Kerr waved the Aussie flag.
As if the world’s sexiest women in lingerie wasn’t enough entertainment, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber performed for the keen crowd. The show was filmed twice in NYC, and will air tonight at 8.30pm, on FOX8. Can't wait 'til then? Why not step inside and see all the Victoria's Secret hotness — direct from New York City — now?
The Icon Kit: In the Navy! With Poppy Delevingne
Navy blue is having a moment. Every second Autumn/Winter '13 showing I attend has a sea of the classic hue (cue internal fist pump). Bella too has been bitten by the navy blue bug — expounding the appeal of an inky smoky eye, just this morning. We're far too impatient to wait until the weather turns cold to try out the trend, so we went through our Icon Kit files to find something a little more seasonally relevant. May we introduce ... Poppy Delevingne, wearing Louis Vuitton at the label's S/S '12 Paris fashion week show way back in October of last year. Still so good.
The Icon Kit: Snap Up Rachel Bilson's High Shine Short Suit
There's no way that Bella and I could not include Rachel Bilson somewhere in the Icon Kit mix, so today we're shining a light on one of the cutie patootie's best-ever looks; that 3.1 Phillip Lim rose gold short suit. Ms Bilson worked this directional look with her usual effortless style for a Vogue fête way back in June of 2009, but three years on this high-shine ensemble still has major sway with us. Step inside to see how steal a little bit of Rachel's iconic style for your fine selves. . .
The Icon Kit: Nail Kate Bosworth's Chic Race-Day Look
This week has been awash with trackside style; from Saturday's Derby Day to Tuesday's Melbourne Cup, to tomorrow's Stakes Day — it's been all systems hats, heels and horses at Sugar HQ. We've been reminiscing over our favourite all-time trackside looks, and there's one favourite across the board: Kate Bosworth in Collette Dinnigan at Derby Day way back in 2006. Bella and I have put our collective skills to work to show you how you can recreate this iconic look in time for the Spring racing season's last hurrah. Wanna see how?
The First Pictures of the 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Via Twitter!
It's days like these when we thank our stars for Twitter — and it's just-as-handy cousin, Instagram! Without it we'd be waiting on edge for hours of pictures to trickle through to us from very important events, like for example the 2012 Victoria's Secret fashion show. We've been trawling our social media feeds and luckily the Angels are quick to share their candid snaps online! From Justin Bieber hanging backstage with the girls, to Alessandra Ambrosio's crazy-amazing wings to Rihanna on arrival to the props that made runway road-kill. . . we've collated the perviest pictures so y'all can get instant, VIP access to the sexiest catwalk show of the year.
The Icon Kit: Get Alexa Chung's Sexy Cut-Offs Look
Some things will always look good together. A white tee and jeans. A little black dress and a glass of champagne. A pair of denim cut-offs and a tan. The latter was demonstrated to perfection by Alexa Chung, way back in July of 2010, at the Mulberry pool party in LA. We've kept this look on file for a reason; the worn-in cut-offs teamed with the luxey/sexy/touch-me appeal of the satin blush blouse gives is an easy sensuality that would slay any date night dress code. Add in her glowy complexion, bronzed pins and ahead-of-her-time nail art and you've got one iconic look worth emualating. Step on in to see how . . .
The Icon Kit: Get Gwyneth Paltrow's All-White Oscars Look
There's something timeless about an all-white look for Summer, which is why we've reached into the archives to pull out this gem for today's Icon Kit. It makes your (faux) tan glow, your pearly whites pop, and gives the impression that you've just stepped off a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean (stay with us here). Gwyneth Paltrow knows the power of a show-white sheath, knocking the socks of every paparazzi and his SLR with that caped creation by Tom Ford at this year's Oscars. Whilst you may not have a red rug to trot down anytime soon, we think GP's iconic look would make a brilliant start-point for the Spring-season's social calendar; weddings, Christmas parties ... heck! Any time you need to frock up. It's as easy as A plus B. . .
