Robyn and Katie Dyke are collectively 86.6kg lighter and $200,000 richer after being crowned the winners of The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation on the grand finale last night. The mother-daughter Orange Team from Tasmania narrowly beat father-son team Gerald and Todd at the final weigh-in, by just 0.07 percent of their body weight. We caught up with Robyn and Katie to talk about how they watched the finale (they only learned the result last night!), why they took a shine to trainer Steve "The Commando" Willis, and what changes they’ve made to their lives now that they’ve returned to reality.
I was so excited to watch the finale last night. How are you feeling?
Katie: I’m overwhelmed and in shock. I’m still trying to comprehend the fact that yes, I’m 20, and I just won a weight loss TV show.
You did — and you won $200,000, which is amazing! Have you got plans with what you’re going to do with the winnings yet?
Katie: Yeah, we’re gonna split it down the middle, and we’re going to take Dad and Ashley, my little brother, we’re going to go back to New Zealand, and we’re going to give them a bit of the experience that we had while we were over there.
What was your highlight from that week? It was a full-on week they put you through.
Katie: The bath at the end of the day [laughs]. I think finishing it — the top of that hill, 37kg on my back, I was going green nearly vomiting because my ankle was that bad. It was the best feeling.
