Spring Racing Carnival: Joh Bailey Shares His Top Tops for Races Hairstyles

Show Pony: Joh Bailey Shares Top 10 Tips For Race Day Hair

On the eve of the Caulfield Cup (and with the Melbourne Cup looming) we thought it high time we get a few quick tips on selecting and maintaining the perfect races 'do from one of our fave professionals, TRESemmé Head Stylist Joh Bailey so we can all look as pretty as Jodi Gordon on the big day . . .

TIP #1: Don’t fuss around with your hair too much. An elaborate and intricate up 'do might look great when you have it done, but you don’t want it falling and looking messy later in the day.

TIP #2: If you do decide to go up, hairspray is your best friend! Look for something with flexible hold like TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray ($3.99/$7.95).

TIP #3: Pop a purse-sized hairspray in your clutch for touch-ups.

TIP #3: Don’t touch your hair throughout the day as this will cause the style to fall out quicker.

TIP #5: If your hat or fascinator is over the top and bold, keep your hair sleek and slicked back in a high or low ponytail for a sexy modern look.

TIP #6: With a prettier or more subtle headpiece, go for hair out and curled.

TIP #7: If you're heading to a salon to have your hair done, make sure you take the hat so you can discuss with the stylist.

TIP #8: Remember anything goes when it comes to headwear. Races season is the only time most ladies get to wear a fantastic hat, so have fun with it and try something different.

TIP #9: Take some spare bobby pins and a hairband just in case you need to whip it up and away from your face at the end of the day.
