If you weren’t sure if the hair accessories trend from Fashion Month was going to catch on, allow us to present to you the attendees of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ Third Annual Gala. The star-studded event took place on Dec. 3 and had A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio, Keke Palmer, and Hailey Bieber in attendance.

While the formal gowns and tuxedos certainly piqued our interest, as beauty lovers, our eyes immediately scanned the nails, makeup, and hair on the red carpet. In the latter category, it was all about the decorations as stars took their ponytails, updos, and loc hairstyles up a notch with the addition of feathers, jewelry, flowers, and other trendy embellishments.

Hair accessories are one of the many beauty trends to experience a revival post-pandemic, resulting in everything from jumbo scrunchies to claw clips making a fierce return to our mood boards. At this year’s New York Fashion Week, Alice and Olivia championed the underbow trend, where the accessory was seen situated under an updo for an adorable peek-a-boo effect. But that’s not all: french pins, headband styles, and barrettes were also spotted on countless runways.

If you’re looking to get in on the hair accessory hype, we gathered the best examples from the 2023 Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala, as seen on Billie Eilish, Teyana Taylor, and Phoebe Tonkin, to help spark some inspiration. Whether you have a buzz cut like Lupita Nyong’o or are looking to jazz up a classic bun, the stars at last night’s big event prove the options are limitless.
