My skincare routine is forever a work in progress. The constant trial and error of products that might suit my sensitive AND combination skin can lead to unwanted breakouts or itchiness. But it doesn’t stop me from getting excited about the possibility of finding something effective. So when tasked with reviewing a 5-star rated oil from The Jojoba Company, I was hopeful and albeit slightly nervous.

The cult-approved Australian Jojoba ($34) has been used on the set of Hollywood blockbusters like “Babylon” to spruce up Brad Pitt’s hair. It has also been raved about by skincare enthusiasts for its hydrating effects when applied to skin. And because of my curiosity, I also reached for the Jojoba Water Toning Mist ($22.95) and Probiotic Jojoba Milk Hydrating Serum ($49.95).

If I was going to break out, I may as well do it in one fell swoop and more importantly, the bottles looked cute. Who doesn’t want products that solve your skin problems while also adding to your interior cabinet decor?

The plan was to test it for three full days (both morning and night) to see if it gave me any noticeable results:

Jojoba Water Toning Mist

After washing off the day with my go-to cleanser and following up with a swipe of micellar water, I went for the Toning Mist. When pulling off its cap, I caught a light rose and citrus scent. And four spritzes later, felt a tingly (but not stinging) sensation.

Its fast-drying formula made my skin feel cool and eased some of my after-cleansing redness. This was also a pleasant addition to my AM routine — the lemon-y fragrance added a pop of summer to cold mornings.

Australian Jojoba Oil

The iconic Jojoba Company Oil came next. On first impression, the oil had an almost water like consistency — very thin and runny. One and a half pumps was enough to cover my face and half of my neck in a light layer.

Initially I had some trouble getting the oil to absorb into my forehead but with a few rubs it settled. If you’re not used to using face oils (like me), this definitely feels somewhat heavy on the face in the beginning.

To the oily skinned crowd, use this sparingly. And because I used the back of my hand like a palette to squeeze the product onto, I did notice it felt softer to the touch.

Probiotic Jojoba Milk Hydrating Serum

Thought probiotics were only for gut health? Turns out they can be an added nutrient in your skincare products too.

Ending my trial routine off with the Probiotic Jojoba Milk Hydrating Serum amplified the rose and citrus scent of the toner. “Milk” is exactly what this looks like, even down to the colour and consistency.

Topping off the process with this Jojoba Company serum locked in the oil beneath. And because of the sheer amount of hydration sources on my face each morning and night, I didn’t feel the need to add a moisturiser on top.

When waking up the next morning after closing out my evenings with this routine, my face looked fuller and more plump. I even noticed a slight evenness to my skin’s texture, with one of my nearest and dearest even commenting on how the oil made my cheeks were more glowy in the light.

Although it did make my face look slightly oiler in the daytime, it did act as a natural highlighter — ideal for any daytime selfies.
