The 2012 APRA Music Awards were held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre last night, with talent such as Gotye, Kate Miller-Heidke, Tina Arena and Kasey Chambers in attendance. The event recognises the success of those behind the scenes in the music industry, “creators” such as songwriters and publishers, and Gotye (real name Wally De Backer) dominated the night by taking home the honours for most played Australian work, songwriter of the year, and song of the year for “Somebody That I Used to Know.” His breakup anthem ruled Aussie airwaves last year and has been making a splash on the international music scene over the past few months. Other winners included Boy and Bear and Birds of Tokyo. Brian McFadden, leather skirt-clad Vogue Williams, and The Voice contestant Mahalia Barnes were also among the night’s guests.
