I always think of Boxing Day movie releases as the cinema’s present to us. There’s always something for everyone, and this year’s selection includes a mix of expected crowd pleasers (The Tourist, Little Fockers), film festival faves (Blue Valentine, Somewhere), family flicks (Gulliver’s Travels), a foreign film (Heartbreakers) and Oscar bait (The King’s Speech). We’ll finally get to see Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie’s onscreen chemistry in The Tourist, while Johnny’s real life leading lady Vanessa Paradis takes centre stage in Heartbreakers. Comedy fans will be lining up for Little Fockers and Gulliver’s Travels, while others can’t wait to see Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams as a married couple in Blue Valentine, as well as Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, which took out the top prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival. Then there’s The King’s Speech, which is garnering heaps of Oscar buzz for its star Colin Firth. Which film will you be watching?
