Australian nominees for Golden Globe Awards include Toni Collette, Rose Byrne and Simon Baker

Australia’s Golden Globe Nominees Announced

The first big nominations of the awards season have been revealed in Los Angeles and Australia has some heavy hitters in contention for the top TV awards including Simon Baker, Toni Collette and Rose Byrne. Woot woot! Simon was nominated for his role in The Mentalist, while Rose was nominated for her role in the legal drama Damages. Toni received a nomination for the United States of Tara, which earned her an Emmy in September, which was well deserved considering she actually plays four characters in the show. Among the snubs for top film acting awards were Abbie Cornish, who was considered Australia’s best hope for an Oscar for her role in Bright Star. Nicole Kidman also missed out for her role in the ensemble musical Nine.  The Golden Globes will be handed out on January 17.
