Brian McFadden Hits Twitter to Say His Song "Just the Way You Are (Drunk at the Bar)" Is Not About Date Rape

Brian McFadden Says His New Song Is Not About Date Rape

Have you had a listen to Brian McFadden’s new single? It premiered last Friday on good friend Kyle Sandilands’ morning radio show and seems to be attracting attention for the wrong reasons. Titled “Just the Way You Are (Drunk at the Bar)”, the song has been accused of promoting date rape, with lyrics like, “I like you just the way you are / Drunk as sh*t dancing at the bar . . . I can’t wait to get you home so we can do some damage.” Brian hit Twitter to address the controversy and wrote, “my new song is a tongue in cheek song about how i find it cute when my girl [fiancée Delta Goodrem] gets drunk... i am not promoting date-rape” and, “what's the next thing i am going to be labeled as from things i say. super intelligent reaction to my song. wish i was as clever as them” and then, “and yes it is dumb lyrics and a dumb beat.... that was the point!!!! when did i ever claim to be john lennon?”

He said he didn’t have any intention of offending anyone with his track and said it’s just meant to be “fun,” though he also added that he would donate profits from the song to a charity supporting victims of date rape after feeling “sick that my single is getting so much attention for the wrong reason.” If you haven’t heard the song you can have a quick listen below. Do you think it’s inadvertently promoting date rape or just a fun song that’s been misinterpreted?
