We’re only one live show down on The X Factor and an unexpected singer has emerged as a strong contender to take out the title. It’s early days, but if last night’s show is anything to go by, 24-year-old Dami Im has proven she’s one to watch after her fantastic performance of U2’s “One,” a song she’d never heard until her mentor Dannii Minogue chose it for her. The production level was high, with a new-look Dami (hello, haircut and Lady Gaga-esque outfit) singing while playing an elevated piano, but the real star was Dami’s incredible vocal, which brought everyone in the room to their feet by the time she finished the song. Ronan Keating even tweeted, “Everybody watch Dami perform on @thexfactor_au it was incredible. Best performance all night and she's not even in my group.” Other highlights of the night included the powerful, energetic opener by mixed group Third D3GREE and 14-year-old Jai Waetford’s rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” which closed the show. The first elimination takes place tonight with one act cut from the competition.
