David Beckham was greeted by fans and lots of paparazzi when he arrived at Melbourne Airport yesterday. The soccer superstar travelled with his team, LA Galaxy, for a friendly match against Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium tomorrow tonight. Dressed in a grey T-shirt and beanie, with his arm tattoos on show, he was in a cheery mood despite being surrounded by burly security guards and police. Last night David dined at Press Club, the restaurant owned by MasterChef judge George Calombaris, who, as a massive soccer fan, was over the moon. George told reporters: “We’ve had the Prime Minister, recently Sarah Jessica Parker, but this for me is the ultimate. Football is my passion. I always said if I wasn’t going to be a chef I would have been a footballer. But I was just no good at playing it, hence I’m a chef. It’s exciting for myself and my staff knowing someone of that calibre was coming in.” Earlier this morning David paid a visit to Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital, where he met with kids in the neuroscience ward.
