The stars of G.I. Joe: Retaliation joined forces for a Sydney premiere held at Event Cinemas on George Street last night. Before the actors arrived, ninjas performed stunts to entertain the fans, who had been waiting for hours to get a glimpse of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. His co-stars Adrianne Palicki, DJ Cotrona and Byung-hun Lee, and director Jon M. Chu, worked the crowd and media line, and when he did his interviews, The Rock told reporters of how he had grown up playing with the G.I. Joe toys. He told the Daily Telegraph, "I played with two lines of action figures when I was a kid: G.I. Joe and Star Wars . . . So when I got the call saying, 'How do you feel about becoming the leader of the G.I. Joes?', it was like if I got a call from George Lucas saying, 'I want you to be in Star Wars'." G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens in Australia on March 28.
