Leading ladies of the track, field and water traded their usual sports gear for glamorous dresses at the I Support Women in Sport Awards, which was held at Paddington Town Hall in Sydney last night. The awards are an initiative of Women’s Health magazine and aim to “promote positive female role models and highlight sporting achievements that are clearly being missed,” according to the magazine’s editor Felicity Harley. Yesterday Felicity was joined by some of Australia’s most prominent sportswomen at the event, including swimmers Stephanie Rice, Leisel Jones and Alicia Coutts, surfer Sally Fitzgibbons, and basketballer Lauren Jackson. TV beauties Jesinta Campbell and Sally Obermeder were also on hand. Cyclist Anna Meares was awarded the top honour, sportswoman of the year.
