Following his two big blockbusters, Avatar and Clash of the Titans, Sam Worthington’s new film is still in the action genre but stays far away from the fantastical worlds of Na’vi and Greek mythological creatures. In The Debt, Sam plays one of three Mossad agents with a mission to capture a Nazi war criminal who conducted sadistic experiments on Jews during WWII. When they fail, they agree to keep the truth to themselves, unaware that their decision will haunt them thirty years later.
The film is a remake of a 2007 Israeli movie and switches between the past and the present. Helen Mirren co-stars as the present-day version of Sam’s love interest, who has to face her past and revisit the trauma when the truth comes out. The stars premiered The Debt earlier this year at the Toronto Film Festival, and from the preview we can expect lots of action and suspense, so check out the trailer when you read more.
