My Kitchen Rules 2013: Meet the Contestants

The cooking shows are off and running for 2013. Competing against Network Ten's MasterChef: The Professionals tonight is Channel Seven's popular food offering My Kitchen Rules — both shows will air on their respective channels at 7:30 p.m. Last year, clever TV casting saw a colourful bunch of people clashing during instant restaurants — remember "Dr. Evil" contestant Peter from Queensland, or "Princess" Jen who went on to win the series? — which viewers seemed to love, if the ratings were anything to go by.

In 2013 it appears we'll have more people to love and hate, as well as a new judge — The Four in Hand's Colin Fassnidge has deflected from his MasterChef guest appearances to replace Tobie Puttock once the competition moves to MKR HQ. And yes, it will once again be hosted by Manu Feildel and Pete Evans. Click through to see this year's batch of MKR contestants as well as fun facts about them.

I love MKR. In the Netherlands we are halfway season 2013. But I can't tell you how annoying people can take away my enjoyment of seeing people cook who love to cook. Ashley and Sophia think that the world is turning around them and try to kick every other couple that is trying new things (something they can't do because they just cook what they know) hard in the stomach with there very unsympathetic comments. Ashley and Sophia can cook Asian, that I believe. But that is all they can do! Big mouth and look at her mouth when she talks! It's like a wooden doll. And the words that come out of it! So stupid. But with all there comments I can't even feel sorry for them. I rather watch and listen to sympathetic people compete. I'm waiting for them to be send home so I can enjoy the show again. Believe me, no one will cry over it. Compliments for Pete and Manu who don't show any personal feelings during there judging. And to the other teams to keep on going cooking and take chances, something they love to do for the good of there love, cooking. So good concept, bad screening. I have a soft spot for Aussies but with people like Ashley and Sophia it's hard to keep that up.
