Yes, last night’s episode of MasterChef was all about the massive Heston Blumenthal pressure test, where contestants Michael Weldon, Shannon Smyth, Craig Young and Rachel McSwenney had to recreate his burger and fries, along with a creative milkshake. But we couldn’t help but notice that it also featured a lot of Hayden Quinn and Ellie Paxton-Hall screen time, following on from last week’s observations that they were caught holding hands during the Nigella Lawson tag team challenge. Even though a romance has been denied, the way the episode was edited didn’t do anything to play down the rumours — there’s even about one-minute’s worth of footage that cuts to Hayden and Ellie four times as they watch Michael during the challenge (yep, we counted).

At the end of the stressful challenge WA office administrator Rachel was sent home — she struggled with quite a few elements of the dish after getting off to a bad start (she started working on the dough for her brioche bun even though Heston had advised the contestants to work on their meat patties first). Rachel said, “To be honest, I think I grieved and accepted my elimination when the clock stopped . . . that’s when I knew I was going out. I was my own worst enemy in the beginning too — when I saw Heston, I half-thought: that’s it, I’m going.” What did you think of last night’s episode?
