Sofia Vergara may have lost out to her Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen in the best supporting actress in a comedy category at the recent Emmy Awards, but that doesn’t mean the Columbian bombshell is any less talented or funny than her friend. Modern Family Season Two has just been released on DVD and Blu-ray (have you entered our competition to win the DVD?) and to celebrate its release we’ve got some fun snippets from Sofia, as well as a behind-the-scenes extra from the show.
Sofia on being mistaken as her 19-year-old son’s girlfriend: “I love it, he hates it. He’s like ‘blech.’ When people say, ‘Oh, do you want to buy this for you girlfriend?’ I don’t tell them I’m his mum. And immediately he jumps in: ‘She’s my mom!’ He starts going, ‘Mum, come here!’ So that they know I’m not his girlfriend.”
On why she dyed her naturally blonde hair brown: “When I moved to LA, I was going to auditions, and they didn’t know where to put me. I had the Latin body, the subtle accent that I have, and the way I am is all very Latin. But the problem is I didn’t look it. And then I did a screen test for a movie with Adam Sandler and the director told me he wanted to see me with dark hair. And they put on a wig and I really liked it. So the next day I went and dyed my hair dark, and now suddenly I became the hot Latina. Now they believed I was Latina, and I started booking more work.”
