Kate Middleton is getting back to business after a long vacation with a new haircut. On Sept. 12, the royal picked back up with some official engagements in England after taking a few weeks off with her family. Her updated look has, of course, drawn the attention of the internet and is a retro take on her previous style.

For the occasion, Middleton’s hair, which is usually styled straight or in a blowout, had cascading layers and tons of volume. Additionally, she added long curtain bangs to her look, which framed her face. She completed the rest of her ensemble with a blue blazer, a white top, and simple jewelry.

The curtain bangs trend brings that ’70s vibe back in a big way, and the viral style doesn’t seem to be falling out of favor any time soon. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kash Doll, and Sydney Sweeney have all put their own spin on the look over the last year. Combining them with layers and long curls, as Middleton did, adds a touch of Old-Hollywood glamour that feels classic and timeless.

The royal family tends to adhere to very strict beauty rules, so whenever there is a change in routine, it drums up a lot of attention. The “Kate Middleton effect” often sees the Duchess’s clothes selling out instantly in retailers, so we won’t be surprised if there’s an influx of curtain bangs in the UK very soon. Take a closer look at Middleton’s new hairstyle below.
