Alex Perry, Alessandria Ambrosio, Australia and Fashion Week are phrases we're pretty excited to include in the same sentence. Always a hotly-anticipated name on the schedule, Alex Perry's Spring Summer 2014/15 show set a glittering standard on the first full day of Fashion Week. And what better time to recap (and fully appreciate) the runway extravaganza than on the longest of long weekends: Easter.
While the clothes would have been enough to get us talking (Alex Perry's designs always are), Perry added Alessandra Ambrosio into the mix, booking the Victoria's Secret beauty to open and close today's show. Needless to say, there was whip-lash caused in the front row as the music got louder and Alessandra stormed the runway to an energetic beat.
Once Alessandra exited, the focus returned to the fashion and we were met with a sophisticated collection of pencil silhouettes that clung close to the body, structured and short trumpet skirts and crop tops. Pencil dresses were cut open at the back or featured see-through lace panels at the back for a sexier edge. Tea dresses also came with an after-hours update, whether through shimmering beadwork or high impact circle skirts.
Leather-effect iridescent fabrics and leather was a theme throughout, with black, navy, cream and colour-blocked orange and pink proving to be Perry's shades of choice for the SS'14/15 collection, titled "Varsity".
Like with last year's Alex Perry show, eyes in the front row flickered from clothes to the feet, with Tony Bianco's shoes providing another talking point. Last year was all about the lace-up over-the-knee boot, and this year the Alex Perry runway brought back little lace booties.
