If we could live forever and ever in Alice McCall's cosmic runway wonderland, we would. For her Spring Summer 2014/15 "In My Dream We Were Flying" collection (which also marks the label's tenth birthday!), the designer transported show-goers on a dreamy fashion escape. Shredded white paper fluttered from the ceiling and in the centre of the runway, broken sculptures hung from wire, making the dream-like show set even more bizarre and fantastical. Already, Alice McCALL had the makings of Fashion Week's most talked-about show — and we haven't even started on the clothes yet.
The clothes perfectly matched the mood, starting with the colour palette. We saw a spectrum of soft pastel shades trend, including pistachio green, dusty pale blue, carnation pink and lemon chiffon. In true Alice form (she's really a girly-girl at heart) silhouettes were equally sweet and feminine. Delicate ruffles of sheer chiffon, sweetheart rompers, jumbo scalloped skirts and cameo necklines mixed with more minimal shapes; sculpted neoprene dresses, bomber jackets and bonded futuristic sweaters. The pastels were complemented by prints that had less sugar, were more modern and interpreted the dream inspiration with cosmic figures of goddesses, pyramids, serpents and cosmic skies.
While we'd happily take every piece straight home from the runway, it was the Watteau-pleat playsuits and sheer, '70s-vibe wide-leg pants that we're itching to pre-order now. Keep scrolling to see what all the fuss is about.
