SUGAR LAB: Olay Professional Pro-X Starter Protocol, Part 1

Product reviews are hugely important. Imagine being told by someone with the exact same skin type as you, the exact same age as you, “go buy this product.” Works every time. Now, to ensure you get the most accurate review each time, we partner a product with its best match on Team Sugar.

Here, that person is Shelley (aka PopSugar). Shelley—photographed above—is 42, obsessed beyond belief with SATC and has combination skin. She’s happy, but not with those pesky eye and forehead wrinkles that have started to creep up.

What Shelley’s trialling: Olay Professional Pro-X Starter Protocol ($99.99)

What is it? A new, three-step skincare line from Olay Professional that trains your skin to “act” younger, reducing wrinkles and improving your skin’s moisture barrier in just 28 days.

Tell us a bit about it, Shelley . . . I was given the Olay Professional Pro-X kit two days after my 42nd birthday. After a particularly stressful year, I started noticing wrinkles on my forehead and around the eyes—I looked like I needed to check into a clinic for exhaustion. I was in the US a few months back and this was just going off over there so I’ve been nagging Bella to tell me the launch date. Luckily she did one better and asked me to review it!

What were your first thoughts? I was impressed that I could get products that had gone through costly clinical trials and that had proven results (akin to prescription drugs) at such a low price. I was also pleased that the day lotion featured SPF 15. Sun protection is a must living in Australia.

Keep reading to hear about the long-term results . . .How about long-term results? After three weeks, I noticed that the fine lines on my forehead had softened and a few age spots appeared to have faded. The Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment was really lightweight and absorbed quickly, making it a great base for eye makeup. And I’m a bit of an ingredients nut so I was pleased to see that it contains caffeine, as I know that’s the key to reducing puffiness after a late night. The night cream was really rich, a real treat for the skin, but I was probably most excited that the products are fragrance-free—I can’t stand over-perfumed skincare. People have commented that my face looks “fresher” which is definitely great to hear, and I know it feels smoother, so I’ll continue with Pro-X and step away from the knife.
