As she approaches childbirth once more, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is reflecting on the inner struggles she faced with the arrival of her first. In a recent Porter cover story, Rosie said she underwent somewhat of an identity crisis upon welcoming her son, Jack, in 2017. “For a period after I had my first son, there was a real shift in identity,” the 34-year-old said, “and a sort of mourning of the loss of your old life, and who you were.”

For the model and entrepreneur, the start of motherhood coincided with the launch of her beauty platform, Rose Inc, which is now a full-fledged brand. “I just remember feeling like the rug was pulled out from underneath me,” Rosie added. “I’d had all these years of being really independent, being able to come and go as I wished, being self-employed to a degree, calling the shots, and then suddenly having [something] that really anchored me to home life.”

These issues were compounded by the fact that Rosie had admittedly attached “a lot of” her identity to her appearance. “[I]t really took me a long time to come around, but I think once I stepped into the role, embraced it, everything sort of relaxed a little bit,” she said. “I did start to feel this new sense of life. And now, in my thirties, my confidence is so much [greater] and my ability to make decisions and not second-guess myself is stronger. I genuinely feel like my life is much more well-rounded.”

Rosie is currently expecting her second child with actor Jason Statham. She shared the joyous news in August.
