It was a special night in France with the 20th annual amfAR gala taking place during the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday. The event raises money for AIDS research, and this year, it featured The Ultimate Gold Collection Fashion Show, as well as an auction. Guests were in for a special treat since a trip to space with Leonardo DiCaprio was up for bid! Before the fun began inside, though, stars hit the red carpet in their finest. Model Alessandra Ambrosio worked the cameras in a metallic gown while Goldie Hawn brought a pop of colour in yellow and Rosario Dawson kept it neutral in black. Milla Jovovich, Jessica Chastain, in a red Saint Laurent look, Sharon Stone, Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue and Ellie Goulding also made appearances.
Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn on Beauty, Motherhood, and Making Up a Maltese
Often, women look to their mothers to see how they will age, and if Goldie Hawn is any indication, Kate Hudson has nothing to worry about. Both stars work hard for their glowing complexions, but they each have differing approaches when it comes to skin care. Kate, a global brand ambassador for Almay, keeps it simple, while her mother loves to experiment.

Gwyneth Has Famous Friends For a Good Housekeeping Night

Gwyneth Paltrow got some of her best Big Apple girlfriends together last night for Good Housekeeping's Shine On Awards, which honoured the achievements of powerful women. The actress was there to salute the work and raise awareness around maternal health done by Christy Turlington Burns, and they shared the evening with other ladies like Meryl Streep, Rebecca Romijn and new mum Ali Larter. Gwyneth, who was on the cover of the magazine's February issue, has been busy with her return to Glee, and promoting her latest publication — she hosted a dinner for friends like Cameron Diaz, Jay-Z and Mario Batali on Monday to toast her new cookbook My Father's Daughter. She was on hand yesterday to congratulate others, but Gwyneth took a minute to discuss the long hours she spends maintaining her awesome figure. Gwyneth said on the red carpet, "The reason that I can be 38 and have two kids and wear a bikini is because I work my [expletive] ass off. It's not an accident. It's not luck, it's not fairy dust, it's not good genes. It's killing myself for an hour and a half five days a week, but what I get out of it is relative to what I put into it. That's what I try to do in all areas of my life."

Jake Adds His Manly Touch to Elle's Women in Hollywood Event With Kate, Gwyneth, Diane and More
Elle magazine took over LA last night to host its 17th annual Women in Hollywood event. The grey carpet was full of colour, with both Diane Kruger and Gwyneth Paltrow opting for bright numbers. Kate Hudson, meanwhile, went with a black dress and a daring side-swept hairstyle. Rachel Zoe covered up her supposed baby bump with one of her favourite flowing gowns, while Jake Gyllenhaal went classic in his suit. Ppo US were able to grab a minute with Kate as she headed inside to her waiting boyfriend, Matt Bellamy. Stay tuned later for video from the party to see what Diane had to say about her new movie and the best piece of style advice she's ever received!
Kate and Matt were seated side by side at their table, where they sipped champagne and kept the PDA coming. Both Kate and Gwyneth are featured in Elle's November issue, and they were each honoured at the bash along with Diane. Kate took the stage to say a few words after being introduced by her mother, Goldie Hawn. Jake had kind words to share about his Proof co-star Gwyneth, saying, "Bottom line, she is not a mere mortal like the rest of us. She is an Internet-savvy, award-winning lifestyle guru, making all of us look lazy."

Nine: A Sequin-Covered Hot Mess You Must See
I had two thoughts after I saw Nine: One, the movie’s main character, Guido Contini is the Tiger Woods of the film world and, two, I want to be Kate Hudson. A lot of people have been hating on the film and it hasn’t done very well at the US box office, but it’s still a spectacle worth seeing. I thought it would be more like Chicago, given that director Rob Marshall was helming, but it has a very different feel. The film is actually based on a musical that's based on an Italian play that's based on director Federico Fellini's movie 8 1/2. Got all that? And it’s chock-a-block with Oscar-winning names.
Daniel Day-Lewisworks his Italian accent as Guido Contini (based on Fellini), a famous director who's struggling to find inspiration for his much-anticipated ninth film. His accent kept taking me out of the film and I wondered if the role might have been even sexier and spicier with original choice Javier Bardem (and Penelope Cruz's boyfriend) as the lead.
