Inspirational Ladies Celebrate the 2013 InStyle Women of Style Awards

Influential Australian women (and some men) came together last night at Carriageworks in Sydney for InStyle’s annual Women of Style Awards.

Influential Australian women (and some men) came together last night at Carriageworks in Sydney for InStyle’s annual Women of Style Awards. The glamorous event celebrated the achievements of women from all different fields, from entertainment to beauty, and on the white carpet actress Claudia Karvan said that was her favourite thing about awards like these — getting to mingle with people outside the film and TV industry. Many celebrities talked about the importance of making sure hard-working, inspirational women were recognised for their work, and also saw it as a great night to catch up with industry friends.

Among the winners honoured last night were Carrie Bickmore (readers’ choice), Rachel Griffiths (entertainment) and Carla Zampatti (fashion). To mark the awards’ fifth anniversary they introduced a Hall of Fame Award, and the inaugural one went to the magazine’s new cover girl, Nicole Kidman, for her continued career and community contributions. Unfortunately Nicole couldn’t attend because she is at the Cannes Film Festival — her mother accepted the award on her behalf — but there was still a star-studded guest list including Kate Waterhouse, Samara Weaving, Charlotte Dawson and Michelle Bridges, who brought along her fellow The Biggest Loser trainer Steve “The Commando” Willis.

Oz: The Great and Powerful hits cinemas next month and the leading ladies of the classic children's story reboot are promoting the project with US InStyle's March issue. Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams posed together for a glamorous shot and spilled about filming and family. Michelle touched on life with boyfriend Jason Segel while Rachel shared her favourite part of working with Michelle. Mila, who has been sticking close to Ashton Kutcher, talked about her tricky costumes. Here's more from Michelle, Rachel and Mila in InStyle:

  • Michelle on Jason: "He is nice . . . I didn't actually realise who he was before I started dating him. I mean, I saw the Muppets movie, and I thought, 'Oh, that's cute,' but the truth is I didn't realise he made a lot of very popular, funny movies or was on a TV show. But maybe more important, I didn't realise he was so tall. I thought, 'Hey, man, you're cramping my style!' I tried wearing wedge heels for a while to compensate, but it wasn't me and I just gave up."
  • Rachel on the best part of filming: "Michelle's daughter and my son are about the same age, so they went to camp together, and we took them bowling. It was really fun for me and Michelle too, because you don't get that many mummy playdates in our business."
  • Mila on her costumes: "I spent a lot of the shoot in a leather corset, wired up in a harness, and flying around in a costume that weighed 10 pounds. I hear some women enjoy wearing a corset, but tell them to try 17 hours of that and then get back to me."

The night's biggest arrival may have been Kobe and Vanessa Bryant, who received a big welcome after recently announcing their plans to scrap their divorce.

Amanda Seyfried Talks Sexy Channing and Managing Her OCD in InStyle

Amanda Seyfried strikes a pose for the January 2013 cover of US InStyle.

Amanda Seyfried strikes a pose for the January 2013 cover of US InStyle. Inside, Les Misérables star Amanda talked about her career — and a great deal more! She spoke with the publication before hitting the red carpet in Alexander McQueen at yesterday's NYC premiere of Les Misérables. Amanda talked to InStyle about just how sexy her Dear John co-star Channing Tatum is, and touched on having OCD and the perils of dating famous guys. Here are highlights from Amanda in InStyle:

  • On dating actors: "I can't date anybody without it being portrayed as a serious relationship in the tabloids. It sucks! Like Josh Hartnett and I were friends; we hung out, we dated. I don't actually have sex with every male I come into contact with . . . I'm just more attracted to actors. I like their choice to be artists — that's ballsy. And a guy who has such access to his emotional life is sexy. Or maybe because lots of the actors I know are so broken. I don't think I'm compatible with anybody I've dated."
  • On Channing Tatum: "Channing was amazing. He's a superstar . . . Everybody wants to have sex with him. And the only person he wants to have sex with is his wife, Jenna. He's the most loyal husband."
  • On managing her OCD: "I'm too measured and controlling — about everything. That's why I take Lexapro. It's for OCD. I don't feel like I'm struggling with it. I think OCD is a part of me that protects me. It's also the part of me that I use in my job, in a positive way . . . I have to do lots of things at the same time. It's an obsessive-compulsive thing. So when I'm on the elliptical machine, which I do almost every day, I have to be knitting, playing Soduku, and listening to something."
