Ben Stiller was honoured at the annual American Cinematheque Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday. Friends from far and wide travelled to LA to toast his body of work. Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Eugene Levy, and Martin Short took the stage to speak about Ben's dedication to moviemaking. Jennifer Aniston wore a Valentino dress to make the rounds with her fiancé, Justin Theroux, as well. Jen and Justin shared kind words about their friend Ben — Justin even produced a short film for him featuring their Tropic Thunder co-star Tom Cruise. Jen and Justin are quite close with Ben and his wife, Christine Taylor. Christine was on Ben's arm for the evening event too, standing out from the crowd in a red gown. Ben closed out his own words with a tribute to Christine. He said, "I have an incredible wife. I love our life together . . . she's the funniest person I know, next to Andy Dick."
Major stars of TV and film gathered together in LA yesterday for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's 2012 Installation Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Jennifer Lawrence stepped out in a Narciso Rodriguez ensemble and met up with her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper inside the event. Bradley and Jennifer will likely be spending time together in the upcoming months while promoting their movie prior to its US November release, but first, she'll report to Atlanta to start filming Catching Fire. Bradley's reportedly heading to Las Vegas to begin work on The Hangover Part III.
Mad Men's Christina Hendricks looked lovely in a black dress while posing for photos on the red carpet, as did Political Animals star Carla Gugino and Django Unchained's Kerry Washington. Inside the ballroom, old friends Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black shared a laugh while John Travolta posed for photos with peers. This year's gathering gave celebrities the chance to catch up and also served as an opportunity for the HFPA to announce its newly inducted officers.
Johnny Depp took the stage in LA Wednesday night during the Revolver Golden God Awards at Club Nokia. He broke out his guitar to duet with Marilyn Manson. Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson performed Manson's songs "Sweet Dreams" and "The Beautiful People." Marilyn introduced the hat-wearing Johnny to the crowd, saying, "If you don't recognise my personal friend . . . my personal saviour, my personal guitar hero — Johnny Depp!" The show also featured a cameo from Taylor Momsen, who sang alongside Marilyn. Johnny and Marilyn have reportedly also teamed up for a song that will appear on Manson's next album.
Johnny took the evening to focus on music, but has lately been busy with film. He just shot The Lone Ranger with Armie Hammer. Also, the trailer of Johnny in Dark Shadows, the new movie from his pal Tim Burton, came out last month.
Jennifer Aniston joined actors Jack Black, Michael Douglas, Jon Favreau and more at the American Cinematheque Awards in LA on Friday night to honour her friend and fellow thespian Robert Downey Jr. Jennifer took the stage in a sexy, form-fitting gown to say a few kind words about her long-time friend RDJ. Jennifer joked, "[Robert] never let his career get in the way of his commitment to hard-core, classic Grade A drugs." Justin Theroux, who dined next to Jen at the event, also shares a connection to Robert, having penned the scripts for Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. Robert stopped by Jen and Justin's table to pose for a photo, but RDJ also stuck beside his wife and mum-to-be, Susan Downey. It's been an exciting week for Robert. In addition to the party, the first trailer for The Avengers was released.
Last night the inside of Event Cinemas on George Street was transformed to look like an animated version of China for the Sydney premiere of Kung Fu Panda 2, which was held as part of the Sydney Film Festival. Traditional Chinese dragon dancers and musicians hit the red carpet ahead of stars Jack Black, Lucy Liu, director Jennifer Yuh Nelson and DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, while a life-size version of Po the panda also made the rounds to entertain young guests. Jack hammed it up for the cameras by showing off his best kung fu moves, while we chatted to Lucy, Jennifer and Jeffrey about bringing the popular panda hero and his friends back for a second outing. Lucy said voicing Viper for the sequel was “nice because you feel like you’re coming home,” and that it was much easier to ease into the role a second time. Many Aussie stars who attended saw the premiere as an opportunity to treat the whole family to a night out — especially those with young kids, such as Kylie Gillies and Peter O’Brien.
Are you ready for your second serving of Po the panda? Kung Fu Panda 2 stars Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen and Lucy Liu joined fans yesterday morning at LA's Grauman's Chinese Theater for the LA premiere of their animated movie. Brad Pitt was front and centre alongside his beautiful partner, Angelina, who stepped out in another high slitted dress. The couple were just in Cannes last week on behalf of her Panda and Brad's The Tree of Life. Brad did lots of press for his Terrence Malick film, which won the film festival's top prize, but instead of staying in France to see his film's victory he was right by his leading lady's side for her big day.
Angelina Jolie joined her co-stars Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman to bring Kung Fu Panda 2 to the Cannes Film Festival yesterday! The movie is screening out of competition, but the timing is perfect since she and the family will be sticking around to premiere Brad Pitt's Tree of Life on Monday. Angelina looked stunning in a tan dress, brown belt and nude heels, and she was cracking up during the press conference as Dustin and Jack showed off their comedic skills. Dustin harped on his own age, joking that he doesn't even remember making the first Kung Fu Panda, so it felt like the first time playing the part. Angelina also talked a bit about her kids, especially her boys Pax and Maddox's love of martial arts, and the theme of adoption in Kung Fu Panda 2 that are obviously close to home for the Jolie-Pitts. She said of the Kung Fu Panda series, "It's the best!" while Jack and Dustin kept the laughs coming.
Angelina Jolie and Jack Black kicked off promotion for their movie Kung Fu Panda 2 during the Cannes Film Festival by chatting with Extra. Angelina revealed her new tattoo's meaning to be the longitude and latitude of Brad's Oklahoma birthplace and also addressed rumours she'd adding to her family.
