“The Spanish Love Deception” Is Becoming a Movie – Here's What We Know

Simon & Schuster

Good news, “The Spanish Love Deception” book-lovers! Elena Armas’s 2021 hit rom-com is getting a movie adaptation. Director Peter Hutchings, who just helmed the film version of the popular book “The Hating Game,” is set to lead “The Spanish Love Deception”‘s screen adaptation.

The debut novel from Armas, which has already been published in more than 25 languages, became an instant hit with readers, boasting all the markings of a feel-good romantic comedy, including swoon-worthy characters and a slow-burn romance. The second book in the series, “The American Roommate Experiment,” has already set a release date for September 2022.

“I am thrilled to have BCDF Pictures working on the adaptation of ‘The Spanish Love Deception’ and I have no doubt they will do an amazing job bringing Aaron and Catalina to life,” the Spanish author told Deadline when sharing the exciting news earlier this summer. “Believe me when I say that I am obsessed with the script and Peter Hutchings’s vision of these characters and Spanish setting I keep so close to my heart. ‘The Spanish Love Deception’ readers are not ready for the Martín family!”

Though many details about the forthcoming feature are still under wraps, read on for all we know about the exciting project so far.
