Tyler Posey's Dad Is Joining Him in “Teen Wolf: The Movie” – Here's Where You May Know Him From

Tyler Posey, who played Scott McCall in “Teen Wolf” from 2011 to 2017, will soon reprise his role in the sequel, “Teen Wolf: The Movie.” A release date has not yet been confirmed for the film, which is slated to premiere on Paramount+, but we do know that a familiar face will be joining him on screen.

Longtime fans may already know that Tyler’s father, John, is also a part of the “Teen Wolf” universe. He will also return for the movie, his son revealed at Comic-Con in July. John first appeared in the 2011 web series “Teen Wolf: Search For a Cure” and later made a cameo in the show’s ninth episode, “Wolf’s Bane,” eventually becoming a recurring character in season four. He plays Dr. Conrad Fenris, the chief medical officer at the Eichen House psychiatric hospital who specializes in the supernatural. Reps for Tyler and John did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment.

Before “Teen Wolf,” John was already established in Hollywood, but his career hasn’t entirely been without setbacks. He was originally cast as Danny Tanner on “Full House” but was replaced by Bob Saget after filming the pilot episode. “I didn’t know at the time that [Saget] was the guy that they originally wanted, that he was just unavailable,” John recalled in a 2014 interview with Yahoo TV.

But John went on to appear in a wide variety of films, including “Manhunter,” “RobCop 3,” “Perry Mason: The Case of the Defiant Daughter,” and “W.M.G.” He also is an established presence on TV, appearing in “Cheers,” “Dallas,” “Seinfeld,” “ER,” “NCIS,” “Criminal Minds,” and “Bones.” His most-recognizable roles from over the years include John McGinnis in “My Wildest Dreams” and Bill Millstone in “How to Get Away with Murder.” Additionally, John spent years touring the country with “Father, Son & Holy Coach,” his one-man show about a dad who tries to live vicariously through his son.

Performing has been a source of bonding for John and Tyler over the years: Tyler and his brother Jesse became producers on “Father, Son & Holy Coach” after their mother and John’s wife, Cyndi, died of cancer in 2016. “He needed a distraction – we all did,” Tyler told People of his dad. “It felt like putting this play on together was almost for her. I wanted to make her happy and proud. I know us doing it together would have made her so happy. She loved when all her boys were together.” John also expressed his joy at working with his kids at the time. “I’ve always done this show on my own, and it’s been nice to hand part of the production off to my sons,” he told People. “The play is a great father–son story, and it’s so great to have the boys on board. It’s amazing to watch them grow into the men they’ve become.”
