Jennifer Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney tied the knot in 2019, but the actress admitted that she almost called it all off before saying, “I do.” Lawrence explained in a new interview with The New York Times, published Nov. 2, that she came close to stopping the wedding before it could happen due to her conflicting feelings about commitment.

In her new movie “Causeway,” Lawrence plays Lynsey, a veteran with a fear of committing to anything at all. Lawrence filmed the movie, which comes to Apple TV+ on Nov. 4, while she was getting ready for her wedding and realized she related to her character’s same fear of commitment. “When you don’t fully know yourself, you have no idea where to put yourself,” she told the outlet. “And then I met my husband, and he was like, ‘Put yourself here.’ I was like, ‘That feels right, but what if it’s not?'”

“It was coming out of my performance in all these different creative ways, but I wasn’t conscious of it,” Lawrence continued. “Then I went back, and when I’m home with my husband making this family, I’m so happy I stayed. I’m so happy I didn’t freak out and cancel the wedding and run away and go, ‘I’ll never be taken down!'”

Lawrence also opened up about her decision to change her name legally to Jennifer Maroney. “God, I had such a feminist meltdown about changing my name because it’s my identity, it’s the first thing I’m given,” she explained. But she decided she likes to have the same last name as her husband and her son to use privately while still using Lawrence publicly. “I was born with the name Jennifer Lawrence, but that got taken from me when I was 21 and I never got it back,” she said. “So it didn’t feel like I was giving up anything. That name already belongs to them,” she said, meaning the public. “Jennifer Lawrence is Katniss Everdeen, I guess,” she said. “Is that weird?”

Lawrence also told the Times that she would drink and get high with her “Hunger Games” castmates Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson to decompress during movie promotion. Back in September, she told Vogue that the most fun she ever had on set was with the duo.
