Kendrick Lamar Makes a Tweed Jacket and Pearls Look Cool in Paris

Fashion Week is a time when the worlds of celebrity and style industry combine. And Haute Couture Week, specifically, is when the highest artisanal work meets the crème de la crème of stylish celebs (see Cardi B at Schiaparelli or Florence Pugh at Valentino). As fall Haute Couture Week 2023 ends, we couldn’t get this particular look out of our minds: Kendrick Lamar at the Chanel fall 2023 haute couture show, wearing full head-to-toe Chanel.

The look in question was a traditional white tweed Chanel jacket styled open with a minimal white crew-neck T-shirt and slightly oversize Chanel logoed denim. He accessorized the ensemble with, you guessed it, more Chanel finery, including a black-and-white Chanel double-C scarf, a pair of tortoiseshell Chanel sunglasses, and a long strand of Chanel logoed pearls (similar to the ones worn and popularized by Karl Lagerfeld and Pharrell Williams).

This wasn’t the first time we’ve seen the global superstar decked out in Chanel. At this year’s Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty-themed Met Gala, Lamar wore a casual yet elegant outfit designed by the fashion house. Much like the look he wore to the couture show, this outfit featured a quilted leather jacket (which mirrored the look of a classic Chanel flap bag) paired with a white tee, black trousers, and a Chanel scarf styled as a belt. He finished off the cool Met Gala look with a fitted baseball cap, with the double-C logos embroidered.

The “America Has a Problem” rapper is no stranger to fashion, often turning out iconic looks, pushing the bounds of menswear, and supporting emerging and Black femme designers. In May, he dropped a video and single, “The Hillbillies,” which featured him wearing brands like Martine Rose and rapping about Wales Bonner. At the 2023 Grammy Awards, he wore a full head-to-toe look by Martine Rose: a tracksuit with a white button-up and tie and the brand’s highly coveted Nike Shox Mule MR4 shoes. And on his current “The Big Steppers Tour,” it’s been just as much a fashion show with custom looks by Willy Chavarria, Rick Owens, and Louis Vuitton.
