Iron Man 3 has been in cinemas for over a week, marking the fourth time that Tony Stark has been prominently featured in a movie. But it's been five years since we first saw Robert Downey Jr. don his iron armour, and it can be hard to keep track of everything Tony's been up to since. That's why we've put together this handy guide to Tony's journey — including villains, love interests, and everything in between. Haven't seen Iron Man 3 yet? To refresh your memory, skip the movie marathon and take our crash course in all things Stark instead.
Gwyneth Paltrow hit the red carpet in a sheer colour-blocked Antonio Berardi dress at the premiere of Iron Man 3 in LA yesterday. She was joined by her castmates Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr., who brought along his wife, Susan. The couple arrived sporting dark sunglasses on the carpet and squeezed in some sweet PDA while waving to fans. Yesterday's event marks the first stateside premiere ahead of the movie's May 3 US release (it's already out in Australia). When asked if there would be a fourth Iron Man movie, or if he has plans to appear in the Avengers sequel, Robert said he "doesn't want to wear out [his] welcome" as Tony Stark but knows there's a lot of goodwill for the franchise and his character. Gwyneth and RDJ have recently been promoting the action flick overseas, including stops in Munich, Paris and London. Gwyneth told us that while across the pond, she took her kids, Apple and Moses, to see the movie with their friends and "they loved it."
It's been a busy month for the actress, but with lots of cause for celebration. In addition to making the press rounds for the third instalment of Iron Man, Gwyneth's second cookbook, It's All Good, debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list earlier this month. Gwyneth was also named People magazine's Most Beautiful Woman this week. In the issue, Gwyneth revealed that despite glamming it up for the red carpet, she's much more stripped-down while hanging out at home, saying, "Around the house, I'm in jeans and a t-shirt. I don't really wear makeup."
Gwyneth Paltrow, in a Dior dress, and Robert Downey Jr. got flirty for a photo call in London yesterday. The Iron Man 3 co-stars popped up in the UK for the latest stop on their worldwide tour, which has also taken them to Germany and Paris. Gwyneth and RDJ arrived in London during a sombre time, as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was laid to rest yesterday. They will be extending their stay across the pond since the film's UK premiere was pushed back from its originally scheduled date, today, to tomorrow due to the funeral arrangements, which required heightened security to tend to the large crowds.
Gwyneth and RDJ have been turning on the charm during the film's press push, and Robert planted kisses on Gwyneth's cheek during their photo-call in Munich last week. The duo will continue the fun into next week as they are scheduled to head back to the US to premiere Iron Man 3 in LA ahead of its May 3 US release. Iron Man 3 comes out in Australia on Apr. 24.
Gwyneth Paltrow donned a white Kaufmanfranco dress to join her Iron Man 3 co-star Robert Downey Jr. for a photocall in Munich yesterday. He caused quite a stir as he chose to wear traditional Bavarian garb of lederhosen for the occasion. Yesterday's stop marks Gwyneth's first on the film's worldwide promotional tour. However, the action has already begun for RDJ with stops in Korea, Beijing, and Moscow. The pair are next headed to Paris to debut the film on Monday, followed by stops in London and LA leading up to Iron Man 3's May 3 release in the US.
Gwyneth is now switching gears to promote her latest big-screen endeavor following a recent press push for her new cookbook, It's All Good. As if taking on double-duty with her film and new book were not enough, Gwyneth also graces the cover of US Harper's Bazaar's May edition, and inside the issue, she spoke about her evolving marriage to husband Chris Martin. She said, "We are growing into very similar people. It's cool, it's good. It's not always easy, though!"
"Today is the first day of what's left of your life," announces villain The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) in the latest trailer for Iron Man 3. Indeed, if you caught the first trailer for Iron Man 3, you know things aren't looking good for Tony Stark. He's having a depressive streak after the incident in New York (see: The Avengers) and he's having trouble sleeping, perpetually worried about his true love, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). It's an ideal time for the goosebumps-worthy Mandarin to slip in and shake him down. It's not all bad, though: while this new trailer is just as chilling as the first, it's also more hopeful. Tony has enemies, but he's also got friends — lots of them, in their very own Iron Man-like suits.
Though I'm holding out hope that good prevails over evil, I find The Mandarin to be simply terrifying. He's got a unique look, but it's Kingsley's voice that sends shivers down my spine. Mostly I fear for Pepper, who I'd like to think survives, but Tony's proclamation of "revenge" at the end of the trailer makes me wonder if she makes it out alright. Iron Man 3 hits cinemas on April 24, but until then, you can watch the new trailer after the jump.
Iron Man 3's April 24 release date may still feel a while away, but at least we have a few teases from the film to check out until then. So far, we've gotten a peek at returning alums Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, and a few new characters have made their debut as well. Click through to see Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, and all the rest of the teasing one-sheets.
There are mere days until the Academy Awards, and we can't wait to see so many talented people in one place. It's not just about the nominees and winners, though — there will also be plenty of star power taking the stage to present, and we recently got confirmation about a few of the performers, too. Cast members of Les Misérables will be among the many performing in a tribute to movie musicals, and presenters from Jane Fonda to Kristen Stewart will be on hand. Click through to see them and who else you can expect on Oscar night.
Awards season got off to a good start with the 2013 People's Choice Awards in LA yesterday. The show was full of big wins, plus plenty of laughs from host Kaley Cuoco and some of her celebrity pals. Jennifer Aniston won favourite comedic movie actress, while Jennifer Lawrence took home favourite dramatic movie actress for The Hunger Games, and the film itself picked up best movie and favourite action movie. The Wanted surprisingly beat out One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen for favourite breakout artist, and Sandra Bullock was honoured for her humanitarian work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Sandra teared up while receiving her award, mentioning that the number one reason she loves NOLA is because of "a little sick boy at home who is my man," referring to her son Louis. There were many more statues handed out, so be sure to check out all the People's Choice Award winners.
Other notable moments from the awards show included Happy Endings star Carly Wilson claiming Ian Somerhalder as her boyfriend, Adam Sandler inviting the audience over to Jennifer Aniston's house for pizza, and Jennifer Lawrence declaring that she wishes she was in Mean Girls so she could break her award and hand pieces out to everyone in the audience. There were also performances by Alicia Keys, Jason Aldean and Christina Aguilera. Don't forget to take a look at the 2013 PCAs red carpet arrivals, and be sure to vote for your favourite fashion in our fashion and beauty polls.
Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the all-star Avengers cast stepped out in London last night for the UK premiere. The actors are making their way around the globe prior to the May 4 US release of the action adventure (it opens in Australia on April 25). It was a special evening for dad-to-be Chris Hemsworth, who was joined by his Hoss Intropia-clad wife Elsa Pataky. The couple are expecting their first child in the coming months, though they've decided to keep the baby's gender a secret. Robert might be able to give Chris some parenting tips — RDJ and his wife Susan welcomed son Exton in February.
Scarlett opted to break away from the sexy LBDs she's been wearing and instead chose a floral embroidered Prada frock. Scarlett was the only female cast member to make the trek to Moscow for the Avengers screening, but last night she was joined by her partner in fighting crime, Cobie Smulders. Cobie dazzled in a formfitted floor-length Alexandra Vidal red gown.
The world premiere of The Avengers was held in LA today and lots of the movie’s big names turned out for the red carpet. Leading lady Scarlett Johansson stole the show in her black Versace dress, but her co-stars suited up handsomely as well. Chris Hemsworth slicked back his long blonde hair and fooled around with his Mjölnir (Thor’s hammer) with some journalists. Robert Downey Jr. wore a purple suit and was accompanied by his wife, Susan, who recently gave birth to their first son together. The film’s villain, Tom Hiddleston, wore a grey suit to the event like Jeremy Renner, who plays archer Hawkeye — Jeremy told media that his character would beat The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen in an archery-off! Also walking the red carpet were Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and comic book icon Stan Lee.
