Awards season is well under way, with tomorrow's Golden Globes paving the road straight to the Oscars on March 7. There's so much to be excited about, from the gorgeous gowns our favourite actresses wear to seeing which names are called out as winners. There's also a great array of performances slated for the year, not to mention the star-studded rosters of presenters scheduled for each show. So, tell us what you think—what are you most looking forward to this awards season?
Every year I look forward to the Oscars as the last hurrah after a long awards season. The smaller shows are all a build up to the granddaddy of them all—but what if we didn't have to wait until February for the final word from the Academy? There are whispers that the 2011 Oscars may air in January, which means the show would compete with the Golden Globes and would air before the SAGs and the BAFTAs. The nomination period would also be longer, meaning a December jam-packed with possible contenders would be no more. My feelings are mixed on the subject: the award season is a bit long, but waiting until the end of February is all part of the fun. If the Oscars are already aired, will audiences even care about the little guys like the Film Independent Spirit Awards? How do you feel about the idea of an earlier Oscars—yay or nay?
Sandra Bullock has spent the past few months far away from LA after the madness of awards season. Instead, she and baby Louis have been exploring their home in New Orleans and more recently, Austin. This week, her ex husband Jesse James opened up to the press about his affairs in his first interview since his scandal broke and according to rumours Sandra might be ready to make another public step forward as well. The Oscar winner is apparently considering attending the MTV Movie Awards on June 6, where she's a four-category nominee. Sandra's a worldwide favourite—but fans have also been careful not to pressure her to come back too soon. So tell us, would you be excited to see Sandra's return at the MTV Movie Awards?
Proving that there's really no end to award season in Hollywood, the 2010 MTV Movie Awards nominees have been announced! Naturally, the Twilight kids are all over these categories, but New Moon also gets some lofty competition from movies like The Hangover, The Proposal and Avatar. With categories like "Best WTF Moment," "Biggest Badass Star" and "Best Scared-as-S**t Performance," these definitely aren't the Oscars. But considering the show's history of shenanigans and comedian Aziz Ansari playing host, it should be a night of fun. Voting is now open so be sure to give some love to your favourite the Aussie contenders (cough... Sam Worthington and Isabel Lucas... cough)—but good luck trying to edge out the Twi-hards. Check out the full list of nominees when you read on.
Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the Independent Spirit Awards, which they celebrated by airing it live for the first time. The precursor to today's Oscars is always a looser affair, but the red carpet had it's own impressive ensembles—vote on them with all of Fab and Bella's love it or hate it polls. Lenny Kravitz had a Hollywood up-and-comer, his daughter Zoe, on his arm to support his movie Precious. Carey Mulligan was solo, which is apparently her plan for today as well which dashes our hopes that she'd bring her cute boyfriend Shia LaBeouf. Vera Farmiga was representing theUp In The Air cast in her red dress. The winners were able to have a bit of fun both mingling with friends during the big dinner and on stage where anything goes. Mo'Nique and Gabourey Sidibe both took home statues for their work in Precious, which was the night's big winner—see the full list of winners here. While Mo'Nique is the favourite for today as well, in the press room she said she isn't expecting anything. Ryan Reynolds and Maggie Gyllenhaal carried their champagne on stage and she was also called up to join her Crazy Heart costar Jeff Bridges when he was named best actor. Colin Farrell embraced Elton John as he entered the awards right as they started. During the show, Jeremy Renner checked out the backstage gifting suites and Elle Lounge. Award season's big finale is today and we'll be updating live so keep checking back all day for the latest!
Elisabetta Canalis has been by George Clooney's side since this time last year, when she started travelling the world with him to promote The Men Who Stare at Goats and Up in the Air. The couple went on to celebrate New Year's together and even made the awards season rounds including a final glam appearance at the Oscars. George is known as one of Hollywood's eternal bachelors, but it seems he may have met his match in Elisabetta. So tell us—are you surprised they're still together?
What would The Tony Awards be without the musical-loving gleeks? In a night that was full of flash, Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele joined forces for a Broadway number that was one of the show's most memorable. Morrison went first, rocking some man cleavage for his rendition of "All I Need is a Girl" from Gypsy—and I've got to say the traditional show tunes seem to suit him better than, say, "The Thong Song."
But then came Michele. Glee's favourite diva made a grand entrance down the aisle to "Don't Rain on my Parade" from Funny Girl, stopping along the way to sit on Jonathan Groff's (aka Jesse St. James)'s lap and flirt with Jay-Z. Rumour has it that Michele is in consideration for the Barbra Streisand role when the show hits Broadway in 2012 and after Sunday night's performance they might as well hand it to her. To put it plainly, the girl blew the roof off the joint. Watch the video of both stars when you read on.
