Rose Byrne and fellow Aussie actor Brendan Cowell have called it quits after nearly seven years together. The two split last month right before the Golden Globes. On the red carpet Rose posed with her co-star Tate Donovan and at the time, I wondered why her boyfriend wasn’t with her. Brendan is currently based in LA, while Rose is based in New York, where she films her TV seriesDamages. The pair met through friends band began dating in 2003, but spent most of the time living on opposite sides of the globe, which put a strain on their relationship.
Heidi Klum wasn't hiding much in the April issue of US magazine Allure. If you thought Gisele's shoot was daring, Heidi put on a swimsuit, shaving cream and nothing else to show off her post-baby body. The super's bounced right back into shape after she and Seal welcomed their daughter Lou back in October. Heidi opened up about how she keeps her skin and body in great shape, saying:
On staying out of the sun: "I learned not to go in the sun early on in my career. A tan lasts for a week or two before it fades, and the sun is so damaging—it's not worth it. I put sunscreen on my kids every day before school and before they play outside. They know the routine."
On her love of milk: "You have to think about your whole body when you think about aging. In general, you have to be strong—and that starts with nutrition. I have a glass of milk with dinner every night. When I'm pregnant, I drink a liter of whole milk a day—my trainer would say that's crazy, but it works for me."
On avoiding stretch marks: "I didn't get stretch marks during my pregnancies and I wasn't even moisturising myself like a maniac."
On having fun with her kids: "I'm quite energetic, and I also have sweet children who don't care that I just had another kid. They want to be into things and be loved and go in Ma's bed when they get up early in the morning. So I'm always juggling the family and life with my husband."
This is Rose's second Golden Globe nomination for Damages—her first was in 2007. With none of last year's nominees returning, you would assume this category is wide open. But you'd be wrong. The real race is between Big Love's Chloe Sevigny and Jane Lynch (Glee). It's Chloe's second Globe nod, her first came in 2000 for a supporting role in Boys Don't Cry, and being the quirky, big-name star that she is, Chloe should appeal to the slightly left-of-centre, popularity-seeking Foreign Press. Plus, with Supporting Actress in a TV or miniseries not considered by the Oscars, Globers can afford to be a little daring with this award. Then there's Jane, who, with her role on the uber-popular Glee, may just find the show's commercial success enough of a reason to land her the gong.
Who do you think has the best chance of taking home the Best Supporting Actress prize?
She’s romanced Hugh Dancy (sigh), faced solar flares with Nicholas Cage (she can have that) and next year she’ll sleaze it up with Russell Brand (hmmm, we’ll get back to you on that one), but it’s in her role as Ellen Parsons on Damages that Rose Byrne truly shines. In the Foxtel drama, the Balmain beauty manages to hold her own opposite Hollywood heavy weight Glenn Close and we’re not the only ones who think so. Consistent nods from the AFIs, Emmys and Golden Globes have made the lovely Rose a regular on 2009 red carpets—much to our’s, and Fab’s, delight.
The first big nominations of the awards season have been revealed in Los Angeles and Australia has some heavy hitters in contention for the top TV awards including Simon Baker, Toni Collette and Rose Byrne. Woot woot! Simon was nominated for his role in The Mentalist, while Rose was nominated for her role in the legal drama Damages. Toni received a nomination for the United States of Tara, which earned her an Emmy in September, which was well deserved considering she actually plays four characters in the show. Among the snubs for top film acting awards were Abbie Cornish, who was considered Australia’s best hope for an Oscar for her role in Bright Star. Nicole Kidman also missed out for her role in the ensemble musical Nine. The Golden Globes will be handed out on January 17.
Now that the Oscar hoopla has started to die down, it's time to catch up on the latest going-ons with our favourite Sunday night medical drama. This week's House case involved a young teenybopper with an ego and compulsive lying streak to boot. Sounds intriguing, but personally, I was more wrapped up in all of the personal drama going on with House and a certain fellow female doctor. Ready to cover the highlights? There's a major twist with a big reveal, so prepare for some spoilers!
Yesterday news broke that Abbie Cornish and Ryan Phillippe had split, with Abbie’s PR peeps issuing the first statement saying, “Abbie ended the relationship with Ryan and she moved out of their home.” Now Ryan’s PR peeps are in damage control mode. Let’s take a look at the latest:
Team Ryan: A source tells OK!, “Ryan ended the relationship recently while she was in Australia and asked her to come and remove her items from his residence. She was gone for seven months in production and they basically grew apart. They’d broken up a few times prior. There was no cheating or roving eyes.”
Team Abbie: Meanwhile, her source adds, “Abbie has always questioned Ryan’s loyalty. How could she not? When she began dating him he was married, she’s a smart girl. She knows men don’t change, she hoped he would but she always knew deep down this wasn’t forever.”
If she was TRULY a smart girl, she wouldn’t have messed with a married man, but, whatever. Now it seems Abbie may be heading back to Oz. The source adds, “She is seriously considering moving back to Australia before the summer. She moved here for Ryan and now doesn’t really think she could stay in L.A. without him.” I have a feeling this split is just going to get messier. Who do you believe—Ryan or Abbie?
