The Oscars boasts a guest list of the biggest names in Hollywood, and since it's the biggest award show of the season (not to mention the biggest party night of the year in Hollywood), the stars save up their best in beauty for the occasion. In 2013, we can expect fashionable ladies like Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence to make an appearance wearing the most glamorous hair and makeup trends. However, in order to set the standard for this year's red carpet, first take a look back at the all-stars from the 2012 Oscars red carpet and parties.
There's something timeless about an all-white look for Summer, which is why we've reached into the archives to pull out this gem for today's Icon Kit. It makes your (faux) tan glow, your pearly whites pop, and gives the impression that you've just stepped off a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean (stay with us here). Gwyneth Paltrow knows the power of a show-white sheath, knocking the socks of every paparazzi and his SLR with that caped creation by Tom Ford at this year's Oscars. Whilst you may not have a red rug to trot down anytime soon, we think GP's iconic look would make a brilliant start-point for the Spring-season's social calendar; weddings, Christmas parties ... heck! Any time you need to frock up. It's as easy as A plus B. . .
Gwyneth Paltrow wowed the crowds at this year's Oscars, thanks to that caped creation from Tom Ford. In today's GOOP newsletter, GP let us into the inner sanctum of her Oscars preparation, and quizzed her stylist and pal Elizabeth Saltzman on the ins and outs of finding the perfect dress for such a high profile occasion. We love GP for sharing this snapshot into her hard-to-believe-it's-real-it's-so-fabulous life (what, you don't get ready with Cameron Diaz before hitting the town?). See what Gwyneth's stylist had to say on the 'process', then step inside to see some of our favourite candids from Ms Paltrow's day of Oscars prep.
On the dress: This dress screamed OSCARS to me. It simply was ‘the one’. The dress was composed of all the elements that I look out for for Gwyneth: supreme elegance, grace, royalty, extreme modern luxury, simplicity without lacking intense skill and risk. It had a positive edginess to it as well.
On the politics of 'the right dress': It’s hard because getting the right celebrity in the right dress can mean huge, and I mean monumental, publicity for a designer as well as the client. … It’s about being honest with the designers and the other people involved, listening to what they’re hoping for, and striking a compromise between their vision and the client’s needs.
Tips for finding the right dress: Think about what looks best on you, not which dress you like on the hanger. Think about your posture... Think about where you are going and how much you can relax knowing you are safely, securely, happily dressed.

From the Oscars to the front row Fashion Week, as well as Myer's A/W collection, this week was a fashionable feast, featuring hot-off-the-runway designer looks and custom couture gowns. Michelle Williams' orange Louis Vuitton gown provided a welcome pop of colour among the sea of white that dominated the red carpet, while at the Vanity Fair after party Kate Bosworth worked a black beaded A/W '12 Prabal Gurung dress. Elsewhere, Olivia Palermo opted for a minimalist black ensemble at Paris Fashion Week, and French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt looked sleek in leather blazer. Click through to see who else made our top ten, and then let us know in the comments section who won top spot!
The Vanity Fair Oscars party was the place to be after the Academy Awards on Monday, and many of the A-list guests hopped into the photo booth to commemorate the evening. Katie Holmes posed on the red carpet in a strapless Elie Saab gown alongside husband Tom Cruise, then the two headed inside to chat with David and Victoria Beckham, as well as Lily Collins, before snapping a few photos. Sofia Vergara and her man, Nick Loeb, showed love in the booth, as did Seth Rogen with wife Lauren Miller. There was some affection between pals, too, as a Chanel-clad Emma Stone monkeyed around with Kristen Wiig. Make sure to check out all the Vanity Fair Oscars photo booth pictures!

Yesterday brought Hollywood's most exciting night with the Oscars. The year's best in moviemaking was celebrated at the Hollywood & Highland Center, with gorgeous leading ladies like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Chastain, and Penelope Cruz leading the stylish proceedings. Big honours went to The Artist's Jean Dujardin, The Iron Lady's Meryl Streep, and The Help's Octavia Spencer, as well as Beginners star Christopher Plummer, the oldest actor ever to receive an Academy Award. There was so much to see last night that we've rounded up all the Oscars red carpet pictures, images from the Billy Crystal-hosted show, and photos from all the after parties here in one place. Enjoy!
We've been giving it up for this year's newly minted Oscar winners, but they weren't the only stars who entertained us on the big night. The Oscar show had a few great moments courtesy of a few pairs of presenters, whether it was because they weren't afraid to ham it up or because they wanted to show off their assets. Check out our favourite presenters from Oscar night and why we thought they rocked it.
