AFL Stars and WAGs Take the Spotlight at the 2012 Brownlow Medal

AFL stars and their WAGs lit up the red carpet at Crown Palladium in Melbourne last night to celebrate the 2012 Brownlow Medal.

AFL stars and their WAGs lit up the red carpet at Crown Palladium in Melbourne last night to celebrate the 2012 Brownlow Medal. The honour, which is AFL’s most prestigious individual award, went to Essendon’s Jobe Watson, who had his father, AFL legend Tim Watson, mother Susie, and partner Ella Keddie in the crowd to witness his big moment. Jobe paid tribute to his mum and dad in his speech, saying, “I think my parents have done a lot of work to be an example of how to live and how to behave.”

Before the official proceedings it was all about the ladies on the red carpet, who stole the spotlight in an array of colourful and embellished gowns — many of them skimming over baby bumps! Rebecca Judd took a more conservative approach in custom Toni Maticevski to accompany husband Chris, while actress Jessica McNamee chose a shimmery peplum number and posed on the arm of boyfriend Scott Thompson of the Adelaide Crows. The most bedazzled look of the night went to, fittingly, Brynne Edelsten, who turned heads in a dress that had a mirrored bodice and feathered skirt. Her new reality show Brynne: My Bedazzled Life, premieres on Channel Seven on October 4.

The WAGs Frock Up for the 2011 Brownlow Medals

Whilst sitting spell-bound by coverage of a sporting event isn't usual Fab behaviour, we made an exception for last night's Brownlow Medal awards ceremony.

Whilst sitting spell-bound by coverage of a sporting event isn't usual Fab behaviour, we made an exception for last night's Brownlow Medal awards ceremony. The wives and girlfriends of the AFL eclipsed the medal count with their choice of head-turning frocks, with the blue carpet at Melbourne's Crown Palladium chock-a-block with glamorous gowns. Giving Rugby League's WAGs a run for their red carpet money, the girls were a well-dressed representation of the code, with elegant floor sweeping styles, couture detailing and less flesh flashed than we've seen in previous years. Best on ground goes to Rebecca Judd (yet again) who donned a chartreuse number, and honourable mentions deserved by Chris Newman's partner Lauren Poulter who stood out in a long sleeved gown and Jimmy Bartel's better half Nadia Coppolino who looked elegant in emerald. Take a spin and see what the WAGs wore to AFL's night of nights.

Dane Swan Wins the Brownlow Medal at AFL's Glam Night Out

The men of AFL, along with their wives and girlfriends, got dressed up for a night of glamour at Melbourne’s Crown Casino for the 2011 Brownlow Medal yesterday.

The men of AFL, along with their wives and girlfriends, got dressed up for a night of glamour at Melbourne’s Crown Casino for the 2011 Brownlow Medal yesterday. Dane Swan of the Collingwood Magpies was given the night’s honour, the Brownlow Medal, which is AFL’s most prestigious individual award. In his humorous speech he thanked his family (joking that his sister was often found at the bar) and his girlfriend, Taylor Wilson, saying that his game had improved with her in his life. He also said that he didn’t want his win to affect his preparation going into Collingwood’s grand final against Geelong on Saturday: “The coaching staff and boys certainly won’t let me get ahead of myself . . . I’m going to be treated exactly the same and that’s the way it should be.” There were lots of other WAGs who frocked up for the occasion, including Rebecca Judd, who showed off her slim post-baby figure and said she was “corseted in.” Brynne Edelsten chose a lacy, embellished dress, and The Amazing Race Australia’s Renae Wauhop, who is dating the Eagles’ Mark Nicoski, wore a daring strapless number.

The Glam WAGs Steal the Show at the 2011 Brownlow Medal!

Dane Swan may have won the 2011 Brownlow Medal, but let's be honest, it's really all about the WAGs on the night! And WAGs are nothing without their waves, so it seems. We didn't see a poker straight strand in sight, with many of the AFL's more glamorous halves injecting some volume and texture through their hair. Up 'dos were also big, and bold lips seemed to win out over smoky eyes. As for Best Tressed of the night, we're leaving you to be the judge.
